Hiya.
CD burning on my laptop (Win XP, SP2) has been cranky for a while. I've upgraded the software and tried slow speeds, no other running software etc. What usually happens is that the burning starts, gets to about 3% and then starts to make a painful scratching sound until the plug gets pulled on the computer. I don't know what to try next. Anyone? This is the most recent logfile:

you dont have much free memory, try closing down any unnecessary progs including spyware while burning

Discs made by CMC are possibly the worst you can use and these discs alone cause problems, try using a better quality such as Verbatim or Taiyo Yuden

Yeah obviously, but changing the discs is going to have to wait till payday :(

I've updated Nero and after closing all obviously running programs I still have the 70% memory use. (AdAware says there's no spyware). I'm sure I used to have DMA enabled (back in the days when the burner was working) but I can't find a way to get it back on.

A simulated burn after this gives similar results:
