I know this may sound stupid but any recommendations for backing up magic disc? Treat it as a game? A DVD? or data? I've got DVD Decryptor and DVD Shrink as well as Game X copy and DVD X Copy platinum.
How would I backup Magic disc DVD and CD?

Thank you for any suggestions

have you got the original swap magic discs?? if so theres no point in backing them up because if they get badly scratched etc and do not boot you will still need a way to boot the backup swap magic if you catch ma drift.so just take care of the original discs basically lol

ps2 slimline
200+ backups Verbatim DVD+R 8X
Swap Magic 3.6
TSSTcorp CD/DVDW TS-H552U

What are you talking about? If I back up the originals now while they are new and use the backup until it gets wasted I will always have the original to burn another copy. Am I missing something?

you cannot back up swap magic. the discs are pressed in a special way & WILL NOT back up. you will just end up with plenty of coasters. lol

@ sean12,

Swapmagic disks are only for use with ps2 console.
They will not work for the XBOX.
The XBOX can be MODDED by a chip.
But it is VERY different than the ps2.

http://forums.afterdawn.com/thread_view.cfm/299366

PS2 games are actually pressed DVD/CD discs, they are not burned. PS2 games use the Burst Cutting Area (BCA) of the disc to identify themselves to the PS2 unit. The BCA is not part of a disc that you can burn on, it is only replicated on pressed discs.
So, the only way to play backups is to get boot-discs or a mod-chip.

As said above you wont be able to copy Swap magic disks they MUST be originals.

OK, lets put this thread to rest.
YES, you can back up Swap Magic but it is totally pointless. Like any other back up you would need to use the original Swap Magic disc to load the back up copy you made.

And no they will not work with Xbox
For that you can do one of two things
1. get a good mod chip installed
2. do what is called "softmodding" your xbox which will give you the same results and you can do yourself.

Be warned that if you mod your xbox in any way, even installing a new HDD which is a must really, then Xbox Live will ban you.
If you do not use Xbox Live, or start using a free service like Xlink Kai or XBconnect instead then mod away.

Thanks to all of you for your help in clearing that up. One more question though. If the disc becomes badly scratched will swap magic send me new ones?

@normchevy - what company do you know that sends out another disc to you if YOU scratch them? does Sony send you new discs if you scratch the originals? or Columbia etc if you scratch a movie DVD?... I don't know of any company that will send you new discs if you scratch the originals... but on the other hand I agree in part that if they want to make it illegal to backup the originals then they should replace any scratched discs free of charge, why should we have to pay twice to own a movie/game etc just because the discs scratch easily!!! ... I really look after my discs and still get the occassional scratch on them.. so all that bull***t when they first brought out cd's about being able to do almost anything to the discs such as put jam on them etc and they'd still play as good as new in a player...LOL.
