I did a backup on my desktop computer using Nero and tried it on my comuter D Drive and could read it. I then bunged it in my laptop and when I clicked onto the drive a square came up which read, "Disc is not formatted." The box read, "Windows cannot read from this disc. The disc might be corrupted, or it could be using a format that is not compatible with Windows."
Could this be because I have not got Nero on the laptop or what?
What do I need to do to be able to raed from the disc on my laptop?

What type of backup did you make? What type of drive is in the laptop?
Nobody can help much with the info you give.

I regret that I am not very computer literate but this is what I think is the answer to your question.
I opened Nero, Clicked on "Backup Files" clicked on, "File to backup" and selected the file and then just pressed the button.
The drive on the laptop is, "Toshiba DVD-ROM SD C2502.

I have one of those drives on an old laptop here. They had a hard time reading many type recorded disks. Firmware update help a good bit but not for all. There is like a dozen flavors of that drive so to update the firmware first you will need to identify what flavor yours is. The easy way to do that is with Nero info tools. With you using Nero backup you are likely to need Nero on the computer anyway. So install it and run info tools to see what version firmware is on the drive at present.

Oh I forgot to mention. When you figure out what your firmware is in the drive. You can check here to see if an update is offered.

Just remember the first 2 # or letters is the key. Stay in the flavor of the first 2 #. For instance if your drive firmware is 17xx you want the largest # in 17xx range. If it is 1Dxx you want the largest in the 1Dxx range and so on.
