Haven't personally used them but Verbatims and Tayio Yudens are rated highly and appear to be the best brand of blank media for cd's and dvd's.

I prefer TDK and Sony, allthough I do use Maxell every now and then and have never had a problem with their CDRs or DVD-Rs.

For the best quality mp3s use EAC (exact audio copy) to rip your audio CDs and LAME to encode them. Follow this guide:

What type of cd-r do you normally go for? 74 min, 80 min or 99 min.

usually 80 mins (haven't used 74 mins in years...) and I have a ten or 15 pack of 99 mins in case I have a long album I want to burn or something like that...you?

I always use 80 minute ones. 74 mins one seem useless. I don't think I need to use anything above 80 but If I do i'll definately buy a pack.

Don't you need a special burner that's capable of burning 99 min. CD's? Are all burning programs capable of burning 99 mins.?

Sorry for Buttin' in on your thread, but I got curious & I ran into this problem for the first time just the other day.

@ Digidave
I don't think you need a special burner and i'm sure a program like Nero can burn onto them.
