Got to tell you all this! Though disc both CD and DVD form really doesn't matter to me as for the cost goes, I can usally get them for next to nothing. However, I'm using Nero 6.6.0.18 and I encountered something I didn't expect from Nero. Since I've been using Nero it's always been the leading in making that backup that you want. Well, I acquired this program that's about three gig in size. I uncompressed it and it became an ISO file. Not a problem here right! I put Nero to work to burn me a DVD (in this case) and when it managed to get about 3/4's of the way done, it came up screaming "illegal disc" and stated burn failed! OH, MY...I'm out a DVD man this is really going to cost me here. Well I said "PISS ON YOU NERO" and I used CloneDVD2 and didn't have one bit of problem. Has NERO gone from "Listen boys, I'll back that program up for you no matter what to: Listen boys I'm a pu**y and slap your hands and shame on you? It seems that in order to make a backup now I've been going elsewhere than NERO!
Has anyone else experienced or feel like this is has happened to them?
Thanks,
CloneDron

:~)!
I don't know how much would Nero mind if you pi$$ on him,(he sits nicely protected into your computer:). I am amzed to see though that you haven't noticed Nero being temperamental, not just in your case, but many users. So many things can influence a burn with Nero, why don't you put an error log up, and maybe someone could help you. Or, just give Nero an ammonia rich shower...!

No cause to be amazed. If you would've noticed I HAVE read about the temperments that Nero has been! Hince, is the reason why I'm NOT running Nero 7! I've used Nero for years with no problems and then this happened. I might have put an error log up if I would've saved it. I don't save the error logs. True many things affect how a program reacts but, I haven't changed a thing on how I burn. I've got a 3.4GHZ with 220 gigs shy of a Terabyte of storage and 3 gig of ram. Plenty of power to push that program. I just get the feeling that Nero isn't being as opened minded(if you will) as it use to be. I'm not looking for help, I just wanted to make a statement and wondered if anyone else had a simiular problem that's all. Nothing more and nothing less. If it comes down to more burn fails, I will shower it with ammonia.

You don't have to get all wound up my friend! What I was actually trying to say was that you have to consider that something else might not be working properly beside Nero. As you have said, you did read about how Nero can be very temperamental. That means you also must have read about how very many people have had and still are using Nero with no problems whatsoever(6 or 7). Nero is a great software, that offers a large variety oprtions, but far from perfect. And no doubt, you have enough power to "push" the program! My machine only runs @ 950MHz with 526Mb of Ram and a HDD of 160 Gb(I know, you might say slow, but it works:~), and it has absolutely no problem "pushing" Nero 7 (which by the way, if you are interested you can download vers 7.0.1.4b in the following link, version that many people are using with absolutely no problems):

ftp://ftp2.de.nero.com/software/nero7/Nero-7.0.1.4b_eng.exe

So, I have no doubt your PC is performant enough! But, you must also know that is not all just about power. You probably know that good media plays a huge role in having a succesful burning, also the other software installed on your PC that can conflict with Nero. And,like any other software in your pc, from Solitare to OS, Nero or drivers supporting Nero, can become corrupt. Many things to consider, like yourself said.
As for pi$$ing on Nero,do it brother! I could care less if you are willing to give Nero a try or not, as I am not a Nero share holder, so I would have no gain or loss whatever you decide! I was merely trying to make a suggestion. All I can say, for now, I am a happy Nero user, Nero that handles my AVIs, my mp3s, DVDs ...you name it.
Cheers!

That is the version that many people are using with no problems. Is the previous version, before the last verion, 7.0.5.4, the one reported to have bugs.

@cyprusrom
I'm not wound up! I DO, however, appreciate the link to Nero. I have Nero seven, just have been reluctant to install it. I also have no doubt in my mind that you could care less if I use Nero. However, I have already told you that I've been using it for years now. Hell, I've gotten plenty of originals from all the burners I have bought. Besides, my computer, I've got a PSone (modded), a PS2 (modded), and an XBox (yep modded). So, I'm not new to the world of the digital electronics. I started back with the Commodore 64. The only thing wrong with me is, I'm too stupid to learn how to program. A gift I would give my right arm (cause I'm left handed) to know how. I have absolutely no-one that plays with the Xbox and computers the way I do. Only a few that has PS2's and then they don't mess with them as must as me. I bought a broken PS2 for $50 bucks when they were still $200 and I fixed it and gave it to my daughter. Yes, YOU ARE RIGHT about other factors involved such as the drivers and what not. But, if you can burn one minute then get an error the next, it just makes you wonder and then have less faith in that program. Now I say to myself when I get ready to burn is: do I want to use Nero or some other burning program (of which I have a bunch)? The problem is, I've always liked Nero and is why I used it but, if it's going to be unreliable it might be time to check out some of the other burning softwares. Wouldn't you agree to this?

I hear you man!
I gave up Nero for about 2 months. For exaclty the same reasons you have mentioned, now was burning now it wasn't. I started to use it again when 7.0.14b came out. So far so good, knock in wood!

The Nero in the first link I think is with Yahoo! Toolbar. here is a different one

ftp://ftp3.usw.Nero.com/software/nero7/Nero-7.0.1.4b_eng_no_yt.exe

From one leftie to another, I wish you good luck!
Cheers!

quit being a baby.. post up some logs.. we can figure out whats going on.. and just
because you've fixed a broken ps2.. doesnt mean very much to me.. and i'm not saying
your dumb.. you may just not explored the possibilities. test different things out and see
what works. if you dont.. then why bother going off on some random rant against nero.

also.. as stated above.. your media may be the issue.. and i'm sure you will go off about
how you've used it.. how its not the media.. and go off on some rant about it..

i mainly do my burning on a mac.. i do use my gf pc to do her dvd backups for her.. girl's
got over 400 dvds.. and i did have some issues with nero a few days ago.. i did fix the
issues.. right now i'm just testing out different media that will work on that burner.. it may
just be a picky one.. my wonderful verbs (MCC) have worked great on my macs.. her dvd
burner doesnt like them. i used some ricoh coded maxells, and those burn flawlessly.. i
have yet to try some taiyo yudens on it.. but once that is done.. i will see what i need to do
in order to burn on her machine.
sorry if i ticked anybody off.. but those are my 2 cents..

peace
