xvid divx stopped working

yesterday i was trying to convert one of my dvd's to divx so that way its a smaller file on my hd. anyway i was following the tutorial on this site and was downloading programs to do so.
It wasnt working so i found another tutorial on a different site with a program called like autogk or something like that.

Anyway somewhere inbetween that my divx and avi and xvids stopped working.
so i downloaded new codecs, still not working, unistalled all the programs i used, still no luck. uninstalled nero and installed it again, no luck, found new codecs to install... no luck.

anybody have any suggestions?

okay, i dont know what happened but when i restarted my computer everything worked again.

I have a question about dvd to DivX. When i did the conversion like the afterdawn tutorial said it didnt make the file extension it was supposed to be. it made like 12 different files that were a little over a gig a piece.
