basically it runs fine, allows me to add songs and so forth, but for the past week every time i put in a blank cd it doesn't read it and therefore doesn't ever give me the "burn" option, and i really have no idea what to do

i already tried a laser lens cleaner cd, and i'm pretty sure my dad reinstalled the driver a few months back when it was acting up in a different manner

but yeah, help appreciated

to clarify further, i am able to get all the way to the Final Burn Settings, but when i insert the blank cd it no longer allows me to change the burn setting and it wont allow me to select "burn". and the normal screen that pops up to ask me what action i want to take no longer pops up.

OK now we're getting somewhere, the latest offering from Nero6 is full of bugs so DONT update, keep the version you have.
It could be a media problem, I should have asked at the start the type of Media you are using.

i don't specifically know what you mean when you say media, but as far as the blank cd's go, i use Verbatim digital vinyl cd-r's, as they were recommended as working the best for this burner and have always been fine in the past year or so i've used this computer

The media you are using in my opinion is fine, I have used that in the past and have always had successful burns.
Can you post a log of your last failed burn, you will find it here
Nero 6 history log location: Program Files>Ahead>Nero>NeroHistory.txt
Just highlight last burn and post it thanks.

I cannot think of anything else, how about posting another failed log( the one you just tried) and I'll see if there is any changes.
Failing that I will have to call for the log file expert(Creaky)

well see therein lies the problem. it won't even begin to burn so there's no log of its activity. it simply will not let me get past the "Final Burning Settings".

once i put in a blank cd, the option to burn goes away (which is what it normally does, but I get a pop-up that asks me what action I want to take with the blank cd and once I select something the burn option comes right back up, and now there is no popup at all), and if the blank cd is already in there by the time i get to the Final Burning Settings, both the writing speed option and the burn option are unavailable.

As advised in my analysys of your log, firmware needs to be updated. It appears from the latest log you supplied it hasn't been done so the error persists.
Update firmware and it should solve the problem.

that is an older log

i still haven't been able to even attempt a burn, so i can't produce any logs right now

but infotool tells me that firmware A209 is installed, so that's not the problem
