I have the same problem.

I tried to fix it but I couldn't and I got scared cause I messed with Boot.ini file and it wouldn't load at all. I ended up installing winxp again creating 2 window XP's on the same hard drive...

But I got into safemode with winxp (2) and I was able to change the boot.ini file again.

My fix was this.

When I booted up Bios I pressed F8, picked my Hard Drive and for some reason bypassed NTLDR and it loaded fine. You can try that and see if it works.

If not this guy gave a good link to see if you wanna try to fix it yourself. Heres the link.

hope that helps.

Also another thing you should do is Create a System Restore Checkpoint so in case you mess up you can restore right back to the original.

Thats what I did and I was able to uninstall that 2nd version of WinXP and deleted the folder which was Windows.0

If yeah have your windows disk all you have to do is load up the disc and then load up the recovery console. Then type in FIXBOOT and enter. Ya done. Have fun!

Usually when you get that message it means the ARC path in boot.ini is pointing to the wrong drive or partition
You should have a boot.ini that looks something like this though the / switches may be slightly different

[boot loader]
timeout=30
default=multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINDOWS
[operating systems]
multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINDOWS="Microsoft Windows XP Professional" /fastdetect

Here's what they mean:
multi(0) is always 0 on an IDE system, it's the number of the IDE adapter. Even if you have 2 IDE adapters, nearly every BIOS assigns it a single number so you always use 0

disk(0) is always 0 if using multi, it can be different if using a SCSI drive

rdisk(0)this is the physical disk number starting with 0. So if you have Windows installed on your 2nd hard drive (not partition) this number would be 1 instead. If it is on the 1st physical hard drive then it is 0

partiton(1) this is the first partition on the hard drive, if you have it installed on a different partition this number can change. Here 0 means unformatted space so it would not be used

Those parameters in boot.ini tells the OS which drive and partiton ntldr and ntdetect.com can be found. An incorrect entry here is the most common cause of the ntldr not found message

Here is how to edit it
