Maxell are not the greatest discs you can use and more than likely the cause of the problem. I would recommend using Verbatim or Taiyo Yuden and to burn at around 4X.

If those Maxell DVD's are Made in Japan, they are top quality discs. I think all of the Maxell DVD+R x8 are made in Japan.

The Maxell DVD-R are not good media as they are cheapo's Made in Taiwan.

@FiremanDB

Prior to switching to Verbatim, I was using Maxell and experienced problems, hence the change, in those days I didn't take much notice to point of origin so maybe mine were from Taiwan.
My verbs are from Taiwan, all we can get in Oz, without any apparent problems. Cheers

Each setup it different - what works for one may not work for another.
The maxell's you have could have been made by maxell, ricoh, ritek.
Some here have no problems with these manufacturers - I've had problems with ritek.
As Gwen said try decreasing your burn speed. I would also make sure your drives firmware is up to date. This helps your drive with read & write strategies on media.
Both of these may help the maxell's.
The only two I will use (in this order) are Taiyo Yuden and Verbatim.
For instore Taiyo's pick up some Made in Japan Fuji or Sony. Verbatim's are mainly made in Taiwan - some in Singapore - either should be fine.

Verbatim are one of the best DVD's you can buy and you are right, they are made in Taiwan. Most of the Maxells are not top quality like Verbatim and Taiyo Yuden, but the DVD+R 8X Maxell are the exception to that rule. If they are made in Japan, they are great disks. I recently burned a ten pack and all scored 95 or higher on the CD/DVD speed test. Only Verbatim and TY have performed that well for me. Here is a link with more info:

dmitrip, there are many reasons your disk will not play in your DVD player. It could be an issue with your stand alone DVD player or maybe you tried to burn too fast and just didn't get a good burn. I would not go and buy new disks thinking that will solve your problem (unless they are not made in Japan).

For best playback results in all DVD players, booktype the burned project to DVD-rom and burn at slow speeds.

Good luck!
