I think from your explanation that this is a game you downloaded... correct me if I am wrong?

So, if all is well with the downloaded iso file, it should be a simple matter of burning the image file using Nero or DVD Decrypter.

Can you explain a bit more please, like what certified speed the discs you used are capable of? Have you burnt games before with success? what make and model your burner is?... anything else that could be relevant?

ok sorry mate,
well i have never actually burnt another game before, and yes this was a downloaded iso, the disks i used were ritek go5 DVD-R 8x which i burnt at 4x with my pioneer dvr 110 +/- rw dl
the other two disks which i did not expect to work (ritek r03 +r and verbatim pearl white +r cmc mag) were also both 8x which i burnt at 4x with the same burner.
i know the iso should definately work as other people who downloaded the same file have had success with the iso.
hope you can help me mate thanx for the reply

Ok, everything so far sounds ok more or less...

How big was the ISO file? and have you tried using Nero in "burn image to disc" mode? sometimes gets better results than DVD Decrypter.
Also, what are your computer's specs? and are you trying to do anything else with the computer when you're burning the iso to disc?
Sorry this isn't giving you a definitive answer yet as to what's going wrong, but as this is your first ever burn it's harder to nail down all the things that could be going wrong for you... if possible could you paste a screenshot of your folder where you have the iso file for me? in detail view please so that it shows size etc.

Yep, give Nero a try on "burn image to disc" mode.. burn it at 4x if your discs are certified for upto 8x writing... turn off ALL progs including anti-virus etc, especially as you only have 256MB ram...

good luck with it, and let me know how you got on.

yet another coaster, i burn at 4x with nero, closed down everything in the bckgrnd, still a black screen,
anyway iv been looking deep at everything recently including my computer and my media and iv noticed that the ritek g05 disks are slightly rough (its not very rough still smooth but very noticeable)around the edges,Is this normal? all of the other disks i had were all smooth including the r03 the verbs but the brand new go5 frsh from the pack also have these sort of grooves like the side of a coin.
another thing is that i have installed my burner vertically as that is how my tower is, although i dont think it says anything in the manual of my burner about it being sideways but because i have to put the discs in sideways, that maybe a problem or maybe not as i have seen other computers that have disc drives put in sideways and also ps2s read discs fine when they are put vertically and i have also burnt a few cds fine from iso's using the same burner but not any dvds,
i cannot even turn my tower straight as it is in a desk that has room for a vertically standing tower only.
hope you can help me mate

edit: the manual clearly says under specifications\settings 'this drive is horizontal and vertical use' and yes it does support -r at speeds upto 16x

I can't think of anytjhing else you could try for this game... except maybe try a different game from origianl instead of downloaded.. that way we'll know if it's a problem with the downlaoded file instead of your computer/burner etc. What brand are the ritekg05 discs? some are better than others. Also, you could try getting some verbatim MCC or TYG coded ones (not the cmc mag ones)

Just out of interest what version is your ps2? and do you have the latest OS etc for the modchip?

thanx for the reply,
the go5 are arita branded, i have no idea when you say OS for my ps2 all i know is that it says toxic when i first load it, all i know is that i can play all of my backups fine (not the ones iv burnt myself) my ps2 is a v5/6
and about those sort of grooves at the side of the disks they wont be a prob will they, they are about half a millimetre deep.
and the iso came with an sfv file or summat that is 3 kb i think that is to stop it frm gettin messed up while downloadin, but then agin there could be a prob after i downloaded the file, i have got some back up games that work, ill try copying them to see if they work with my ps2
thanx for the reply anyway.

Get the iso from an original copy... your choice where to get it from, can't help you there... just trying to help you sort out your problem, and it seems like it's the ISO you DL'd.. so at least we know there shouldn't be a prob with your hardware.

very much mistaken, the file was actually a .nrg
it was extracted from 20 rar files so what iv done is deleted the extracted folder, and im going to extract it again using the 20 rar files just in case it was the image file that was corrupt and not the 20 rars,
i suppose i should now use nero or will i still get decent results with dvd decryptor.
ill now burn the new image to disk and ill reply bck,
also the file is in ntsc that wouldnt affect me by any chance as i am in the uk, would it??
thanx again

It souldn't really matter what filetype it was, because a writing program will only let you select images it supports anyway.. so that shouldn't be a problem.. it would be the file itself that would be the problem, unless you've been trying to record them as data discs or something instead of images.
One of the reasons I don't bother with torrents is because you could be downloading a completely useless file. Another is the region conflicts too, you may have to do stuff to the ISO to get it to work correctly if it's from a different region.. that's why I stick to recording from originals.

good luck with it though
