Af far as I know the idea was to do it wireless. I'm not sure, but maybe you need a wireless adapter.

1.You can't stream video using media connect
2.here is a guide on wireless networking http://www.jakeludington.com/xbox/20060207_xbox_360_wireless_netw...
NOTE it can only stream music/pictures, if you want to stream video you have to use windows media centre edition 2005(operating system)

you should have both your pc and your 360 connected to the router (wired or wireless). the router will then assign a network address to your pc. btw - do you have a wireless NIC in your pc?

of course everything has to be connected...
if you read 360dude's post what he did was a direct connection from the pc to the 360. that's why he got the error message. what he has to do is connect both the 360 and his pc to the router so each device is assigned its own ip address in the network. here's what my setup looks like:
3 devices connected to my router:
1 - PC with windows mce 2005 (able to stream videos and mp3's)
2 - PC with win xp pro and media connect (able to stream mp3's and pictures)
3 - xbox 360
the router is connected to my dsl modem.
each device is assigned its own ip address in the network by the router. this way the 360 is able to communicate with the 2 pc's and is also able to connect to xbox live. unless your wireless network has an 802.11 a+g dual band router you may experience slowdowns and interference especially when you try to stream videos. my house is pre-wired with network cable so i have a wired network which works best. i can stream high-def recorded videos to the 360 flawlessly (1080i and 5.1 dolby digital).
