You can open AVS files with TMPGEnc if you have it set up right. You could run PREPARE, and then run TMPGEnc on the resulting AVS files, followed by a REBUILD. But you'd have to someone determine and set all the configuration parameters for TMPEGENC. I'm not familiar enough with its file formats to do that automatically or it would be supported already.

I can tell you that from my experience in the past, TMPGEnc was second only to CCE -- but that was before all the FFMPEG improvements that QuEnc has. So I'm not sure how they rate against each other now.
how exacly do you do it? copy the resulting .mpg files to the D2AVS folder then click "rebuild" ? i would ask on the doom9 forums or PM him myself but they have this gay thing over there where you have to be registered for 5 f*n days before you can post a message or pm anyone....sweet...

I happened upon that post a while back, and I think it was quite dated I'm not sure that TMPGEnc is still second to CCE! (really don't consider CCE #1,in all cases)

but I like options so if you do start a thread let me know!

or if you have already gotten feedback keep us posted!

Which do you consider number 1 then? ProCoder2, QuEnc?

I have just started to use this program, and want the best possible encoder to do the job.

A little testimonial though...

I did do a little test of my own. I was curious just how much better DVD-RB is than other one click transcoders.

I burned a disc with Shrink (50% compression... I know, its alot), and then the same project with DVD-RB using the free QuEnc.

The disc I burned with Shrink was pixelated, and looked plain horrible. (Granted the compression was a little much....)

I then used DVD-RB, and there was no visible degradation in the picture quality. I was, and am amazed at the results.

But again, which encoder do you feel is the best, and why?

jxp - in my opinion, and from the few tests i have done.... CCE is the best, procoder2 is excellent as well and you can only tell the difference when you pause the movie and inspect it... cce also offers multiple passes, procoder2 does not....just a "mastering quality" setting, how many pssses i dont know but looks like only 2

imo hc is # 1 just for the fact that it's free, but in terms of quality I would have to say it depends on the source.

I have seen procoder2 make CCE look pretty bad w/ a couple of the newer starwars titles I set passes @ 4 and CCE could not chase the mosquito noise away, when procoder2,in mastering quality, swatted them flat :-}

I have seen CCE on some smaller files smaller files out do procoder2 in 2 pass.

while hc is pretty steady and can shine in some cases and out do them both, my only complaint w/ hc is that some encodes appear darker than other encoders?!?
