Hello everyone, this is my first post here so take it easy on me please! ;)
I keep seen people that use: DVD Decrypter + DVD Shrink + AnyDVD + Nero + DVD Rebuilder(with CCE). Now I understand all of them as I use them myself, but what I can't understand is why are some of them using Decrypter with AnyDVD? Here's my case and how I have successfully backed up all of my originals without any problems (100+).
If I want the movie only (most cases), I pop the DVD in the tray and check the Movie only size using Recode2 or shrink (same sh!t diferent name) if the compression comes to more than 40% (<60%) I use DVD-RB otherwise I use Recode2. Why are some guys here using DVD Decrypter (with anydvd in the backgroud) then DVD-RB or Recode2 or Shrink? Isn't AnyDVD and Decrypter both designed to remove all encryptions in the DVD? Why use both I don't get it?

DVD Decrypter is no longer updated, therefore it cannot handle newer types of encryptions, but the functionality of the program is still great, so many still want to use it, though it cannot always be used by itself. Newer programs like AnyDVD or DVDFab Decrypter are still being updated and therefore can handle these newer encryptions. Running AnyDVD in the background allows one to still use DVD Decrypter and get past all encryptions that it would have trouble getting past on its own.
Like you stated, Shrink and Recode are essentially the same program, some fell that recode is faster, so the choice between these two programs really comes down to personal preference (and the fact that Shrink is free).
As for DVD-RB, people use this program to compress a DVD with the highest possible quality. I'm still new to RB, but have been completely amazed at the results that I have been getting. The downfall? Time. DVD-RB takes much more time than both shrink or recode, but in my opinion, the results more than justify the waiting time. Plus you could always start a movie (or several if you use Batch Processing) before you go to bed and wake-up a finished product.

ok....... I use DVDDecrypter alone..... not with AnyDVD and I have ripped new movies with it, too! I really haven't come across any movie that I can't rip with DVDD! Does anyone know of a movie that doesn't work with DVDD? I'd like to try to rip it! It seems that I have more luck with it than most people!

I use AnyDVD with Decrypter, so I can rip to my HDD and then process it through Rebuilder. AnyDVD does not rip. It now includes a ripper in the new version but that is for damaged disks. Unlike IHoe I have come across movies that Decrypter cannot do on it own, The Fog was one of them.

Much as I hate to admit it Decrypter is showing its age, but with the help of AnyDVD it works fine. I do not use DVDFab although I know from others it works. I really do not need another ripper as long as AnyDVD works with Decrypter.

IHOE,
Try Fog, The Punisher, The Cave, Madagascar, Brothers Grimm. In file mode DVDD has a prob. but you might be able to do some of them in iso mode although I know the Fog you can not do it either way. I use PgcEdit / the plug-in now more than I use AnyDVD. I only use AnyDVD and DVDDecypter when I am doing d/l disk. So far it has kept the original layerbreak which is what I am looking for

Getting back to the original question why use DVD Decrypter? I use dvd rebuilder pro and CCE almost exclusively and in order to do so the files must be ripped to your hdd since rb/cce does not incorperate a ripper. The reason behind using AnyDVD with DVD Decrypter has already been explained in previous posts.

I'm still confused: this past week I used DVDDecrypter and it worked perfectly ripping new movies (THE WEATHERMAN, NORTH COUNTRY, RENT, THE THING ABOUT MY FOLKS). I thought it wasn't supposed to work with new movies!

@IHoe What planet do you live on? I haven't used DVDDecrypter without AnyDVD lately because it wouldn't work alone with new DVDs. Consider yourself lucky to be able to rip the new stuff without AnyDVD or DVDFabDecrypter.

IHoe,
DVDD will work on the newer ones BUT it depends on the encryption the Company uses. If it uses the newer varities then DVDD will not work. Try using PgcEdit w/ the Pls-2 Plug-in. It really is simple to setup and it uses DVDD to rip the Movie.

I second that Ihoe when needed psl2 file wizard is ingenious in fact so much so that slysoft stole fixvts from it, to add to their package! better yet you are paying for it when it was made and offered for free by a member of the community!
psl2file wizard is also a good alternative when you are waiting for the newest update to any dvd as it hasn't needed an update since it was made!
do madagascar, stealth,or the fog to see dvddecrypter giving you errors unless you have opted to ignore read errors which is a big nono as you will not get the entirety of the movie and more than likely not even shrink will process the gaps left in the pgc chains.
good luck L8

@IHoe
Those movie you mentioned are fairly easy with nothing special on them so that Decrypter should be able to handle them. However, try the movies that L8ter listed and you will really get some errors. Ignoring these errors just creates more problems as you have skipped files.
