Yes you need a modded ps2. If you do not want to void your warranty then buy swap magic. Swap magic is a disc that you put in your ps2 and you switch it for your game. It works with about 95% of games. I got mine for $14.95. Also if you read my guide to backing up and playing ps2 games, in it it has detailed instructions for swap magic. So you may read it for further instructions. Link is in my signature. Also if you aren't aware where to buy the mod chips or swap magic. go to http://www.divineo.com they have the best prices. If you do not understand anything I just posted let me know. Good Luck. If you just joined feel free to stay and add me to your buddies list.

Thats odd, looks like the site doesn't exist anymore. Anyway you can find it somewhere else for a little more expensive. Just do a google search. Feel free to stay and enjoy the site.

Thanks sly lol. Here are some pictures:
this is the version I have.
This is what you would use to open the tray (slide tool)
This is what you could use as an alternative for slide tool (flip top)
This is what your ps2 would look like if you used flip top (I don't recomend)
I would recomend slide tool just because flip top is a pain in the ass and has many problems. If you want more info please do post. I will give you exact instructions when you get swap magic in the mail. Good Luck! If you want more info please post.
And you did say you read my newbies guide to backing up and playing ps2 games right?

for slide tool to work, you have to take off the cover of the disc tray. I broke mine off by mistake trying to take it off lol. What you do is you put in the swap magic disc. You insert the slide tool under the disc tray, then you push it right and pull out, you then put the game in, push the tray closed (do not ever hit open or close button during this process because it won't work correctly), then you insert the slide tool back in and push left, that locks the tray. Then you hit x on the controller and it boots the game. Swap magic comes with 2 discs, one for DVD version and one for cd version. The only "acccesary" is the slide tool. Hope I awnsered your questions, if not post. Also I will look for a video and give you the link. It would be easier to watch someone actually do it. That's what I had to do. Feel free to ask any more questions.

Yes, either the slide tool or the flip top, which ever you prefer. Because the ps2 can't know that you are opening the tray or else it wouldn't work. Also I enjoy helping people on here so no problem. Any other further questions please post. Also please stay on the site and enjoy it.

Go here for a video: go to: http://www.videogamecompany.com/Swapmagicsupport.htm ; then go under older larger psx and download the video.
I mean by stay on the site stay on for a long time, I say this because a lot of the newbies leave after their questions are awnsered.

i have the slim version of PS2 so i watched the video with the slim ps2. and wat the guy was doing was modfifng some parts of the PS2 where u put the cd, was that the fliptop? and would that be a bit dangerous seeing as the cd is going without a cover on it really fast, if it gets lose from its holder that thing would go flying. ouch.

If you have the slim ps2 you must get the fliptop. oops. anyway, You will have to put a new cover on yuor ps2. I don't know as much about fliptop than I do slide tool. It is highly unlikely the fliptop will come off. But if you ask questions I may be able to awnser them. So ask any questions you have.
