I am setting up a new system while at the same time having a bit of a learning curve here. the motherboard is ASUS A8N-SLI Deluxe supports AMD64 architecture and enables simultaneous 32-bit and 64-bit architecture. the processor is AMD 64 3500+ with 2 asus gt600n sli. i have 2 hard drive in the nvidia sata 1 aNd 2 slots with no ide drive except the cdrom. the instructions are for ide. i presume i should disable ide and enable the sata only. to run winxp i need to f6 then use install floppy. their are choice to use either 64bit or 32bit. i think i know the answer but need to make sure Question: Is this refering to the computer ie. 64 bit Amd therefore making it a 64 bit os or is this refering to the operating system which in my case is the winxp32bit. I am to the mind that if the computer is set to 64bit win 32 bit cannot operate on it? Am I correct? I think the later is correct but can someone help. Also my cdrom is not showing in BIOS now, but i had tried before to use the sil (silicon image) choice of sata but changed because my hard drives weren't detected but my cdrom was. can someone helpme over this hurdle please?

its asking u what os is 64 or 32 bit as u correctly said, its just the drivers are in 64 bit and 32bit and u need the 32 bit.
If 64bit 32bit programmes cant go on it.
You dont need to disable ide because that is where ur cd rom is on. So set ur ide as on and sata as on and when setting windows just push f6 on the first option and should be sorted.

I had to disable the IDE on the hard drive channels in the bios.Try doing that first then a raid array for the hard drive.Hope that helps.Does the Asus have a floppy disc for SATA drivers?

Is it crap or is it memorex?

i went back and did it all ok. I think I was a bit tired and ....Yes the IDE were to be disabled in HHD as you said peanuts2. I realise what wdowsing meant and it was my fault for not explaining myself properly. they don't supply floppy but give instructions on making your own off Supply CD-ROM. After I had it all up and running I decided to update the Windows XP I installed and am now informed I had installed that particular one too often. So I am now downloading the Win64 version and will go through it all again. Funny thing is that something on the ASUS box (as I recall) mentions 2 channel for IEEE upto range of 100m or something. Anyhow i installed the netgear wireless adapter and the internet came on straight away without me configuring it to my other computer which is receiving the braodband and which the hub runs off, which I had to do on the network for another computer I set up recently. Was I receiving my broadband or the neighbours?
