Im burning copy of 20,000 leagues under the see.
main movie is 6,810 mb, 2hr 6mins running time.
Now using shrink and re-authoring with just the main movie and getting rid of all the unwanted audio the quality bar is at 63.4 which is really unacceptable. I have deleted out the credits also
Using Clonedvd2, the main movie is at 65% quality.
Both of these are really bad quality as far as what i have read and will be a difference in viewing. If you were in my situation what would you do? I do not want to have to burn to 2 dvd-5's, like to get movies just barely over 2hrs on 1 dvd-5

Depending on the tv your going to watch in on 65% might not be that bad. I compressed more than that on some and watched on a 37" - quality was fine. But it's all in the eye of the beholder (& your tv too)!
You could check 'deep analysis' in shrink - takes longer but improves the quality.
Or if you have a dual layer burner put on a DVD9.

Looks like you chopped it down pretty good. You can run it thru vobblanker and see if there's anything else that can be removed/cut. Otherwise those 2 are pretty accurate to put on a DVD5.

I've watched a couple on a friends widescreen - 51" I think - that were in the 60's compression wise. Looked good. No pixelation with my experience. But each set up is different.
Also make sure your using the good stuff like Taiyo Yuden and Verbatim.
Let's us know how it turns out!

As long as you do the deep analysis and whatever effect you want (sharpness/smoothness), 65% is fine. Personally, I'll always try and get that compression rate as high as possible, but if it's at 65%, I'd be content. The biggest TV around in my place is 36" so I obviously have no issues.
Latest AnyDVD to rip > VOBB to blank the unwanted on a DVD > Shrink to compress > ImgBurn to burn = Never starting a thread asking how to backup a movie

yah, i try not to be in the 60's, mid 70's and above, i should mess with the sharpness/smoothness factors, haven't played with them yet. which do you choice in certain situations as far as type of movie you are viewing

With 63.4% on DVD Shrink's bar which means that it needs 36.6% compressions, and that'll be fine as long as you use "DA + AEC = Deep Analysis + DVD Shrink's Enhancements Quality: adaptive errors compensation", you can either choose "Maximum Smoothness or Maximum Sharpness".
I usually go with "DA + AEC + Max. Sharpness" because I owned a SONY 55" Widescreen HDTV and the quality is acceptable if you're 7 - 8 feet away from the TV. Unless you're 3 - 5 feet, then you may notice some minors graphics/pixels on fast pace, but other than that, it should be good. I used "Progressive scan" via my dvd player and I can hardly tell the differences from the original and my backups (maybe it's only me).
Keep in mind to always use genuine media like Taiyo Yuden, Verbatim "advanced azo or datalife plus" and Hitachi Maxell (made in japan). Just make sure you customized the size to "4460MB" via Edit & Preferences on DVD Shrink and burn at 4X with the latest firmware. Some may argue and say that to customize to 4360MB only, but I like to have less compression and I've always done my backups from 4400MB - 4460MB (more lately) and I've never encountered any playback issues whatsoever.
To be honest, your best choice/bet would be DVD Rebuilder Pro + CCE SP. This 2 combo gives you the best quality pictures in results. However, they're not cheap and it is NOT a joke to encode a single movie, it can take anywhere from 2 hrs - 4 hrs (depends on your system).
If you have Nero Recode 2, then you might get a little better Video Quality by applying "Assign best quality to the Main Movie + AA + HQSR". I primarily used Nero Recode 2 for nearly all of my backups with "Assign best quality to Main Movie + AA + HQSR" and the results are great. Unless the compressions is really high like 45% - 50%, then I'll use DVD Rebuilder Pro + CCE SP to encode.
Good luck!!
