burning fine wont play back on dvd player!

iv recently experienced some problems with winavi and convertodvd and after many exhausting hours managed to fix the problem and continue my avi/xvid/divx copying ways but now my standalone dvd player says there is no disc present whereas my sisters dvd player plays the discs fine!(i tried the discs on a 3rd dvd player and they didnt play either! altho my pc plays them also!) does anyone have any ideas other than the laser being worn out?Also i havent changed dvdRs iv always used the same brand Ritek-R
If this is a dvd player problem can someone please suggest what i should buy to replace it

The only thing that comes to mind is, How fast did you burn? and Did you use DVD Decypter as your Burn Engine?

im using either winavi and then burning with Nero or converttodvd and its built in burner. I was burning at either 4x or 2x. i initially thought that it may have been a codec problem(i uninstalled and reinstalled everything to do with video/audio playback!) but the fact that the output dvd works on any player makes me think i may just be unlucky and 2 of the 3 dvd players are broken!

Could be bad media, I know I've actually had some problems with sopme DVD's not playing because of the brand, but it could also be the DVD player itself...I have two DVD players one plays about 75% of my movies, and the other plays em all...check for players compatible with DVD-R/+R, a Progressive scan?, I bought my DVD player at wal-mart O.o

the media is ritek but iv tried sony stuff also-i downloaded the k-lite codec pack and now i can get the winavi copied dvd files to play on my dvd player its just those that use converttodvd or DivXtoDVD that wont play! can anyone suggest an AVI joiner that i could use instead of the aforementioned?
also wish i could get a dvd player from walmart-dont have them in scotland unfortunately!thanks for the help tho much appreciated!
