Having problems / errors burning both movies and ps2 games with Nero. It can be either an error at the beginning of the burn, in the middle or a "can't perform end of disk error"
Sometimes I'll switch and try with Alcohol 120 and it will work or I end up with a 2nd coaster. A while later I'll get frustrated, try again with Nero and it works.
I'm at a loss here as to why it's not working. Averaging about 50% success and getting alot of nice looking coasters!
Below is my latest log.
Any help at all would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks!!

Hi ßud,

You're a little behind on the version of nero you're using.
Write down that serial# for nero and uninstall version 7.0.1.2 using the nero cleantool found here:

http://ww2.nero.com/nero7/enu/General_CleanTool.html

After install version 7.0.1.4b, its stable and works quite well, you can download it here:

http://httpdl6.us.nero.com/software/nero7/Nero-7.0.1.4b_eng_no_yt.exe

*********************************************************************

Your burner's firmware is upto date @ version A304, so no problem there.

*********************************************************************

Here:
CdRomPeripheral : HL-DT-ST DVD-ROM GDR8162B atapi Port 2 ID 0 DMA: Off
CdRomPeripheral : SCSIVAX DVD/CD-ROM 2.7a Vax347s Port 3 ID 0 DMA: Off

These two devices are most likely set to operate at the slower PIO mode which can potentially cause a problem, so turn on DMA for these two, here's a guide if needed:

http://www.onthegosoft.com/dma_setting_nt.htm
*********************************************************************

Here:
Last possible write address on media: 2298495 (510:46.45, 4489MB)

Have shrink or nero recode produce smaller files sizes to keep from burning too close to the disks outer edge. In shrink goto: edit-->preferences, in the preferences tab choose custom from the dropdown menu and enter a value of 4300.
*********************************************************************

Here:
Burn process failed at 2x (2,770 KB/s)

Your burning a little too slow (not always a good thing with some burners), try bumping it up to 4X (the sweet spot).
*********************************************************************

I also see possible indications that the burner may not be recognizing the brand of media you're using, so it's applying a generic write strategy, which could be why you're averaging about 50% success rate. You should try another brand, I recommend you take a look at the burners manufacturer's web site and see if they provide a list of recommended media for the burner. You could also try using brands like Sony(DVD+Rs), verbatim (16x DVD-Rs), or toyo yuden disks and see if you get a better success rate.

Thanks so much :D
Will give these all a try when I get home this aft and report back.

One question:
"Here:

Have shrink or Nero recode produce smaller files sizes to keep from burning too close to the disks outer edge. In shrink goto: edit-->preferences, in the preferences tab choose custom from the dropdown menu and enter a value of 4300."

Alot of my movies I'll create using Nero Vision. I'm assuming I can reduce the size of them in there?
Also, what if it's a ps2 game? Can the size of that be adjusted?

Thanks for all your help!

You'll need to use nero recode 2 to change the target size of the output file for the movie backups to 4300, not sure about a ps2 game (haven't done this yet).

You can get a guide on recode 2 here:
http://ww2.nero.com/nero7/enu/User_Guide_Recode_2.html

There seem to be certain sections of your log that are missing, can you post the whole thing if possible?

Try these suggestions first:

here:
Nero Version: 6.6.1.4

This version of nero is a bit buggy and will not work with DVD shrink's autoburn with nero option/feature. If burning manually then you could stick with this version, if you at some point want to use shrink to autoburn with nero, then use version 6.6.0.18.

You can uninstall nero6 version 6.6.1.4 using the nero general cleantool found here;
http://ww2.nero.com/nero6/enu/General_CleanTool.html

You can then install version 6.6.0.18 packages 1 and 2 found here;
Package 1
http://httpdl1.usw.nero.com/Nero-6.6.0.18_no_yt.exe

Package 2
http://httpdl1.usw.nero.com/NVE-3.1.0.21_no_yt.exe

Re-enter the serial# and you're good to go.

here:
Last possible write address on media: 2295103 (510:01.28, 4482MB)
Last address to be written: 2286017 (508:00.17, 4464MB)

Have shrink or nero recode produce smaller files sizes to keep from burning too close to the disks outer edge. In shrink goto: edit-->preferences, in the preferences tab choose custom from the dropdown menu and enter a value of 4300.

Your drive is unhappy with your choice of media, try another brand, I always recommend what I've tried and has worked well for me, try Verbatims DVD-Rs or Sony DVD+R disks (make sure the Sony's are made in japan).

here:
Burn process failed at 8x (11,080 KB/s)

Try slowing it down to 4X
