I have been using Azureus and only Azureus for all of my Bittorrent needs up until now. All of a sudden the program will not even start up. I have tried uninstalling and re-installing different versions with stilklk no luck! Does anyone have a clue as to what could be the problem? Otherwise I am looking for a new bittorrent client and want to know which is the best overall.

@cbrooks -- i wholeheartedly agree. I have tried probably most of the clients of the past year or so and i have found uTorrent to be the most stable and least power hungry little app there is. AZ is too bulky, Bitlord never seemed to upload anything and Bitcomet always seemed to get banned at the main site i use for whatever reason. I think the main problem with AZ is the fact it has to use java to run.

I am using uTorrent and its a great litle downloader .Az is good but do you need or does anyone need all these options that Az has and of course with all these options comes the memory use /// uTorrent uses 5mb of memory as to Az i believe is something like 200mb and even higher when downloading // so i say go uTorrent // :-D

Right off the bat, I'm a fan of anythings that works for ME!!
We all are, right?
Right.
I love all of Azureus's gazillion options and use them quite often.
Yes I've tried every torrent client out there.
And this I can state for certainty, when I installed uTorrent to try it...
...upon first initializing of the little app and granting it firewall priveledges, it immediately started uploading!!
WTF, I said to myself, I hadn't even put a torrent file into it yet(what could it possibly be uploading?), I just wanted to poke around at what options it had.
Well Good Luck

There is no best client as such. It soley depends on your personal tastes and your CPU.
If you like several features and a nice layout - BitComet
If you like a lot of features and plugins - Azereus
If you like very low CPU usage - uTorrent

Again, it all comes down to opinion.
Personally, I use BitComet v0.62 atm. And it works great, I always hit my max when I use it with TorrentLeech and TorrentBytes.

I must say personally, that I was very new to this whole bittorrent deal about a month ago, but I've learned almost everything there is to learn about these files during that month.... I originally tried out Azureus, which wouldn't work with my computer (still don't know why), then bitLord.. Until about 30 minutes ago, i thought the best I'd ever be able to do is bitlord, but now I realize that utorrent is by far better than any of the others. I downloaded it, went to my bitlord folder and selected the torrents from that folder and started downloading from it...
Now it's running at more than double it's previous speed, which is extremely incredible considering the fact that I'm running on a wireless connection.

Azureus is the client I use. Although the only downside is the memory usage however it doesnt bug me that much.
I used utorrent as soon as it came out but it was getting me slow speeds. Ive been meaning to try it again but just cant be bothered adjusting the settings.

Use BitComet v0.62 it's the best one around. I tried many clients but no one is like BC. Azureus is slow and bulky like all other java apps around. uTorrent is cool but it needs improvement.
Only problem BC had was with DHT but it has been solved with 0.62. It's not a leech machine anymore. So, [B]BC = Best BT Client
Who's with me?

Have you guys ever compared BitComet with BitLord? They look and feel (and act) exactly the same. They were probably made they the exact same programmers... I've never seen to program as similar as those two.

BC is attractive in look n feel than BitLord. But they are alike in functionality. I tried BitLord long time ago though.

I have been going back and forth with Utorrent and Bitlord. Bitcomet wasn't working for me to well and my Azureus has started to work again but just hasn't been consistent speed wise. Speed is my biggest issue! I'l take speed over looks or ease of use anyday.

Try installing service pack 2. And using the lvlord patch. Btw, you have to forward ports if you are using a firewall/router. And remember not to use the default ports! Make sure you're port does not begin with 6.

In the linux setup I am playing with I am having to use AZ as my torrent downloader. In windoze I still use uTorrent. AZ seems to be very good on a linux set up, with very little noticeable impact on operating (compared to windoze). I am still no expert, but I will continue to play around and see what happens.

I would say Azereus and ”torrent, since they've both been working for me.
And i would advise people to stay away from bitlord and bitcomet, since a lot of trackers are banning them because they are considered leech clients...
here's what someone said on supertorrents about bitcomet :
Quote: Ban for it continous choke/unchoke and hammering peers, stealing seeds, DHT abuse and other options that potentially can be exploited in disadvantage of the ST and its users. Ban it for its developer never showed good will to correct this sh*t from day one to the last available version, show BC it cant cheat on the torrent protocol itself. But, be prepared well to deal with cheaters and their spoofed torrent clients. Other derivates of BC are no better in no way and should enter the same category too...

Wanna tell me off, go ahead.
I dare ya !
