I just ripped Disney's Tarzan with DVD Decryptor and then took the VTS files and put them thru Rebuilder (FREE version). The previews on this one look grainy and somewhat pixelated like the ones on Aladdin. However, when playing the main movie of Tarzan thru Nero it looked very good. I used RB Free and HC Mode to do this. Although I haven't burned these files to a blank dvd yet, they look like this thru Nero. Is this because Disney puts so many previews on their discs which is taking away from the main movie's qaulity?
Thanks,
Keith

Depends on how much compression your putting on the disk,
If your putting over 50% compression your going to have
BAD quality loss.
Normally an original is full of Extras that you dont need,
thats why I use DVD Shrink and backup the movie and
whatever features I want, But I try to keep the compression
above 80%.
good luck

Well I didn't choose any of the "take away" options on Rebuilder.
Is the poor qaulity during those previews because I'm watching it on a monitor and not a TV? Like I said, I didn't choose any qaulity loss in options. My Revenge of the Sith looked awesome, but Disc 1 only had the main movie and chapters. Disney movies always are chock full of those damn previews. Any ideas?

have you used any matrices?
it's possible that the disney movies are authored are authored in different bitrates and hc is applying different matrices due to bitrate changes.

I have heard that certain encoders do better in certain situations. I'm not sure which is better for Animations.

the problem you are experiencing are not uncommon. Most likely the bitrate is lower for the previews and extras. Your best bet would be to eliminate those previews and extras with dvdremake, vobblanker, IFOEdit, or dvd-rb pro will even do it.

imo procoder 2 has given me the best consistant results with animation!
I'm sorry using the free version you will not be able to adjust matrices but I think the encoder will default when certain min/max bitrates are to exceeded.
better than editing out the extra's you might just find the means to go pro!

@ dvdripper
Just exactly what do you want to do? Have a back-up disc that has only what you want to play? Or a disc that keeps everything on the original?
I prefer just the movie and sound tracks. To each his own tho.
You have listed, as others, several good programs. Keep it realistic for the intended goal. A movie DVD that I can just put in the DVD player and watch. Just the movie.
If done right, it will fit on to a DVD-5 disc, with neglible or no compression. There is so much crap, self serving crap, on anything you buy these days courtesy of the directors & other such important people.

If you're only interested in the movie/menu only then you can get away with both of them untouched with thier Dolby 5.1 track. Be sure to use VOB Blanker to get rid of any of those annoying previews.

Yeah, VobBlanker 2.1.0.0 or the latest VobBlanker 2.1.1.0b1 (beta version) should be able to do pretty much everything. You can "cut or blank out" any unwanted junks like FBI Warnings, previews/trailers, extras, director's commentary, menu, rating logos/screens, etc.
I like to have a menu + the main movie and maybe just the deleted scenes or alternate ending if there's any that I like. If I don't like it, then I'll blank those junks out along with fbi warnings, previews, trailers, directors commentary, and rating logos/screens too.
Afterall, VobBlanker is FREE and it's fast, it only take 5 minutes to process that's all.

alkohol,
We think very much alike on what we like to keep and don't want to keep on our backups. Only difference is I use dvdremake pro for the task. I've got it so might as well use it.

@Mort81 buddy,
Yes indeed. Great minds think alike. How long does it usually take you to successfully process your edited movie via DVDRemake Pro by chance? I'm just curious that's all. Because I can simply "process" my VIDEO_TS.IFO and take out unwanted junks via VobBlanker within 5 minutes only.
Yep, both VobBlanker and DVDRemake Pro ROCK!!

alkohol,
bout the same. depends on how much I keep and how big the main movie is of course. I think there is a fully functional trial period for dvdremake pro. Another reason I like remake pro is because it will let me strip angles.

@Mort81
Thanks for the info buddy. I'll check it out sometime later on. I think I have DVDRemake Pro somewhere in my file/system (can't remember now). Long story short, a close friend of mine was kind enough to give it to me for testing/editing, but it just that I've never tried it only.
