For an intel chip i would say yes thats normal. Intels are hot chips. Although AMD are hot too but on average amd hovers in the 40s and intel because its a multimedia chip moslty its runs hot. Thats my say. It may be different..

Intel pentium 4s do run hotter. Up to 60-65 is about the norm, but above 65c would be becoming a problem, have a look on the Intel site for an idea of high temps. I had a problem where my Pentium 4 went upto 94c, not a good temp. I found one side of the socket clips wasn't in right after that it runs at 40-45c. It also depends on how many fans are in your case. The prescot pentium is known for high teperatures.
I wouldn't be concerned about 54c, after all Pentium 4s can with stand alot of heat. Hope the above helped.

thanks, that is what happened to me too. my cpu was at 93C and i found out one of the clips was not attached to the motherboard properley. also the fan for the chassis, is it better to have it sucking air out of the case or sucking air into the case?

look at this web link http://www.lianli.com/Product/Chassis/M_C_PS_PC-60.htm

It will show you the best air flow for temperatures. One fan at the back of your case should be blowing warm air out and the front one blowing cold air in. This will keep the motherboard and cpu cool. The Lian Li P60 PLus case shows you this on the link above. One of the best cases in the world for keeping things cool.

The above link won't work for some reason.

Go to xcase.co.uk and on the left hand side half way down click on Lian Li.co.uk than choose the PC60 Plus case. Click on the Lian Li web link and it will take you to the Lian Li site. It should show you a moving diagram of air flow.
