I'm not sure actually what my problem is, but this is whats going on.I have a HP DVD Writer 200j to work with and i use to use Phillips DVD+R (2.4x), but then, i ran out of them and bough these shitty ass dvds (DVD+R 4x, i think they were made by CompUSA or someone like that, it wasn't even brand) and then they worked fine, but i eventually ran out and i couldn't get neither of those types of dvds around here anymore.
so then, i bought DYNEX DVDs (8x) and tried to back-up a game, Alcohol 120%, MagicISO, DVD Decrypter, NONE of them would accept the dvd, so i thought it couldnt of been because of the speed of the dvd (based on the previews dvds, i thought that couldnt of ONLY been the logic). So, I went to Walmart a few days back and bought SONY DVDs, DVD+R, supports 1x to 8x, i wasnt going to buy them but because someone said Japanese dvds works better, and it did say "MADE IN JAPAN" and it said it supported 1-8x, i bought them tried to use them with thoses softwares, and they didn't work neither.
all the programs i've mention before, they detected that the DVD was present and it was ready to go, but when it came time to recording it, it just woulndt work!
Theses programs doesn't support 8x dvds or is it just impossible to burn games on 8x dvds? or am i just using the wrong programs?
if anyone could please give me a hand with this, it'd be pretty sweet. thanks!
peace out

What kind of error do you get when trying to back the games up? Is it an I/O error? Those MIJ Sony DVD+R's are Taiyo Yuden's. I doubt seriously the media is the issue. Update your firmware and make sure your burner is in DMA Mode.

82. Q. When I'm burning with DVD Decrypter or Nero I get an I/O error or some other strange error, I'm not sure my burner is in DMA mode, and I'm confused about different media, what do I do?
A. http://home.comcast.net/~bbmayo/FAQ.htm

92. Q. What is firmware and why should I care?
A. Firmware as defined by AD:
Sort of a "operating system of the hardware", an embedded instruction set built-in or flashed into a hardware equipment, such as a router, CDR drive, DVD-ROM drive, washing machine, etc.
Newer Firmware can unlock new features that are sealed on certain DVD Burners like booktyping, or simply enhance your existing Burner by improving burn quality and media compatiblility. Keeping your Firmware up to date is essential to ensure quality burns and maximum functionality from your DVD Burner. When flashing your burner with new Firmware, be very careful. Make sure you shut down all programs running in the background, the DVD-ROM drive is empty, and you follow all the directions included in the Firmware download exactly. A bad flash can fry your DVD Burner. Proceed with caution. You can find all the Firmware you'll ever need here: http://forum.rpc1.org/dl_all.php

That's no coincidence. The MIT Sony's are decent, definitely better than Ridata/Ritek. They're not on par with Taiyo Yuden or Verbatim.
