Hello everybody!
I just received the DMS4 SE Lite ModChip with the laser fix in the mail. Can anyone give me some advice as to how to install them correctly?
I haven't done much soldering but I think once I get a good diagram and instructions I could do it myself. I found a diagram for the laser fix but, quite honestly, that doesn't help me at all. I have no clue what to do now.
The question:
Can anyone suggest me a link with step-by-step instructions on how to install the modchip and laser fix?
I will also be very thankful for any other info on install them.
My PS2 is v.14 Slimline.
Thanks a lot!!!
You are a perfect candidate for someone who should their PS2 to a pro. You should not, under any circumstances attempt to install a chip in your PS2 unless you're an experienced solderer. Send it to a pro. The quality is gaurunteed, and there's zero possibility for error. The cost is nominal, versus getting a new PS2 because of a butchered install. The v.14 PS2 doesn't require a laser fix. Send it to pro. Check the Modchip FAQ in my sig for a list of reputable installers.
why would you even want to install a modchip yourself but then again how did experience modders get good rep by installing them. They must have went through like 50 ps2's.Just tihnk we wont need swap magic and all that when we have a working ps2 emulator and i cant wait to see ppl modding the ps3 and buying 50gb blue ray discs.
1) Mobo GH-037-01
2) I thought v. 14 does need laser fix. At least that what it says here:
http://www.modchip.com/ps2/v12laserfix.htm Or are they just trying to sell it?
3) I have friends who've done lots of soldering. Would they be able to do it?
In other words, is installing a modchip more that soldering the chip onto the mobo? Do you need to install some kind of software or anything that?
Thanks again!
http://www.dms3.com/dms4se/diagrams/DMS4SE_V14_GH-0037_41.jpg will show the contact points for the installation. the chip will require flashing after installation to the Toxic BIOS before it will boot backup disks but it's not rocket science. as far as your ability (or your friends) goes to install it, take a look at the contact points and see if you believe your able to do it. the slim is by far the easiest to mod. for the laser fix, i install them on all V9 or later consoles because the LA chip drive voltage for the focus coils is 12v
@Greg, another useless Uneducated post and just so you don't look quite so ignorant in the future when your blowing all the smoke about the PS3, it's Blu-ray. education is priceless, you really should invest in yours.
I just started to disassemble my PS2.
I am doing everything like in this guide here:
http://www.console.com/product_ps2_modchip_disas_v12.php I have unscrewed all 6 skrews and the top cover should come off now. But the top still seems to be connected to the bottom part along the right side (where the power button is). I don't see any skrews there at all and I don't want to pull hard.
Is there a hidden skrew or some kind of trick to get it apart?
Ah GregI is back, why don't they IP ban people? Anyway MnPenner, I think you're taking a big risk by going ahead with little to no knowledge of what you're doing. KC may be able to talk you through the process, but I've seen too many threads like this that ended in disaster. If you do decide to proceed, follow KC's advice and links he gives you exactly. My original recommendation stands, send it to a pro. This isn't a knock on you or your soldering abilities, it's just not something for non experts to attempt. It's $50 or so vs. the possiblity of destroying your PS2. The risk/reward there isn't very promising. The decision is yours to make. Good luck.
