DRX-810UL on a Macintosh?

So I have a Sony DRX-810UL puchased 2weeks ago and I want to use it on a mac.

Sony says that this drive is compatible with windows (only). Is this just because Sony did not include any software for a mac or am I missing something, shouldn't all DVD drives be compatible with macs and Pcs?

software is not supplied with burners i do not have a Mac the reason may be drivers
