Hello, and big thanks to anyone who can offer a solution to my dilemma... and please, I know there will be a tempatation to tell me it's my own fault for buying a screwy Microsoft product AGAIN, I'm just a sucker for bluetooth & the price was right.
Okay, so it's the Keyboard Elite and Intellimouse combo. I got it from a pc retailer that was going out of business -- it was sold as new, but when I got it home the Microsoft dongle was missing. Still, I paid $25 for the combo, so I didn't feel too ripped off.
Besides, I already have an IOgear dongle for my palm and headphones. It should be okay, yes? Noooooooo....
When I boot up, 98% of the time the mouse will work. The keyboard, on the other hand, has to be paired manually every time. Sometimes I really have to fight with the system to get it to see the mouse/keyboard. I read on the Microsoft website that there's something in Service Pack 2 that interrupts bluetooth devices from automatically pairing -- their solution to this is to go to bluettoth devices and tick the "discoverability" tab. Here's the kicker; it won't let me. When I click on "apply" I'm given an error saying it was unable to save my changes.
To make things worse, the software that came with the mouse and keyboard doesn't even recognise them -- they can be connected and functioning - but when it scans for bluetooth devices it says nothing could be found.
Ideally, I'd like to know if there's a way around this. I have a hard time believing that it's the non-Microsoft dongle that's causing all this grief. Then again.... I guess that's not so out of the question. I'm just crushed that I still have to keep my old mouse connected simulataneously, just in case....
