1. What Is DVD-RB?

DVD-RB, or DVD Rebuilder, is a tool that uses an MPEG encoder to compress DVD-9 discs to fit on a DVD-5 recordable.

2. What's the difference between DVD-RB and Other 1 Click programs?

Most 1 click tools are compressed domain transcoders. (I.E. DVD Shrink.)
What this means in English is that they simply remove enough information from the video on a DVD to make it small enough to fit on a blank disc. Instead of using that approach, DVD-RB re-encodes the video from scratch. The advantage to this approach is that a good MPEG encoder will do a better job of distributing the bitrate, both between frames and between different pixels in the same frame, in a way that maintains as much quality as possible from the original.

If the disk is encrypted it will have to be removed manually,
or by AnyDVD (which I use).

DVD shrink is NOT the best choice for quality.
DVD shrink is best used for main movie only using NO COMPRESSION,
Anything with compression of over 10% or more,
You will see GREAT improvement using DVD-rb expecially,
on a bigger screen television.

I use DVD-RB with the CCE encoder set on a 2 pass mode.
The quality is unrivaled.
(even at small compression rates of 10-20%).

Cheers!

Interesting. Does DVD Rebuilder let you remove trailers and other junk before it starts rebuilding? Is it easy to use?

If you're not living on the edge, you're taking up too much room!

CCE encoder isn't free

I personally use DVD Fab Decrypter (Free)
remove everything I don't want with VOB Blanker (Free)
and shrink the DVD with Nero Recode (Free as long as you have a reg ver of Nero) as long as you have the DVD Analyze and use the slow encoding function then the video comes out really good..

Depending on the compression depends on the length of time it takes to shrink the video...

The HC encoder IS free and comes with dvd-rb,
And the quality is noticable even when using Nero Recode 2.
If you want quality DVd-rb is the way to go.
CCE is better than HC but HC is included with dvd-rb
(yes you can remove whatever you dont want with dvd-rb).

Shrink is fast, Nero recode is good, DVD-RB is the best.
In terms of quality.

But dont take my word for it hop over to the dvd-rb forum
and ask others who have been using it for a while.

Is DVD Rebuilder better than DVD Shrink?
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Definitely. I used to use DVD Shrink, but now-a-days, I only used Nero Recode 2 with "AA + HQSR" (for any movies that needed 40% or lower compressions) and DVD Rebuilder Pro + CCE SP (for any movies that needed 40% - 50% or higher compressions).

using XviD encode technology can compress even 80% without loss quality
