Hi guys i tried using the guide for using the programs called TMPGEng and IFOedit. I followed the instructions and i came out with a vob file that had no audio. Here is the AVI codec analysis

File : 698 MB (698 MB), duration: 1:28:49, type: AVI, 1 audio stream(s), quality: 57 %

Video : 600 MB, 945 Kbps, 25.0 fps, 608*256 (2.21:1), XVID = XVID Mpeg-4, Supported

Audio : 97 MB, 153 Kbps, 44100 Hz, 2 channels, 0x55 = MPEG Layer-3, Supported

i used the setting dvd-pal and CBR - MPEG-1 Layer II Audio (MP2) for audio and basic followed the guide:

http://www.afterdawn.com/guides/archive/convert_avi_to_dvd_page_4.cfm

But still no audio... i dont no wat to do

Try converting the audio to wav first and entering the wav into TMPGEnc as audio. Guide here for VirtualDub (free) : http://www.videohelp.com/virtualdubaudio.htm and you can also use GoldWave (shareware).

The problem is that, usually, convering someting to DVD gives a M2V file (video) + an audio stream. Its compression status (standard WAV, or MP2 like (S)VCDs, or AC3 [Dolby Surround] is not very relavent (apart that high compressons free more space on the DVD, so one can insert in that DVD a video with higher bitrate). What it important is that stream must be sampled 48 kHz (AVIs are usually sampled 44.1 kHz, unless they are AVI movies made to be also read directly by a DVD player capable to read DivX files), and this is the only thing TMPGenc does.
Therefore, in TMPGenc, you see (on the Output File Name line: movie[m2v+wav].
When your encoder's jub finished, you need to perform the final step: authoring.
That is, you choose any application you want (also the free IFOEdit or ReJig applications are enough), you load the video (M2V) + the audio (WAV,MP2,AC3) + (if yot want a) the subtitle (SUP or the importation of a SRT, if it's DVD Lab) + (if yot want to have some) chapters positon and you start building the DVD content, that is: the VOBs (video+audio(s)+subtitle(s) muxed together), the IFOs, the BUPs.
Maybe you authored badly.

Following the tutorial on this site to convert AVI to DVD, I'm currently on the step of encoding the file with TMPGEnc, and I end up with no sound. Here's the sound properties from AVIcodec for this AVI file:
Audio : 18.63 MB, 123 Kbps, 48000 Hz, 2 channels, 0x55 = MPEG Layer-3, Supported

In TMPGEnc I'm using CBR MPEG-1 Layer II Audio (MP2) and when I select the video file it automatically populates the 'audio' field beneath it with the same file, so I would assume it can see there is audio. I tried changing all the settings as the guide recommended, and leaving everything at default, and yet the output file has no audio. If I then open that output file from TMPGEnc in AVIcodec it doesn't show anything for the Audio portion. What is going wrong?

*Edit-I tried extracting the audio with VirtualDub first, but I got an error message saying it detected improper VBR audio encoding in the source file and will rewrite it as CBR, but it might lag as a result, and its about 5 seconds ahead of the video now. It says to decompress the entire audio stream and recompress with a constant bitrate encoder. How do I do that?

Try this guide for converting to wav: http://www.videohelp.com/forum/userguides/160649.php but GoldWave is shareware and has a trial. VirtualDub didn't always create a wav file for me either but GoldWave should. TMPGEnc can see audio but is terrible at encoding it. No audio or out of sync audio in TMPGEnc was why I got Goldwave in the first place. Not sure where you go if the audio is still out of sync after encoding.

If you run your AVI File through this Tool:

http://www.megaupload.com/?d=J7HNW11I

It will Fix the VBR MP3 audio so it doesn"t dissapear after encodeing and it is easier than V-Dub....
