I've had trouble loading 5 backups that I've made in the past.
But with the help of the tutorial posted in the thread "Patching, Rebuilding games, how you do it", I've successfully rebuilt 4 of those & they've worked perfectly.
The only difference that I notice between those working games and Dirge of Cerberus, is that DoC shows many more files when put into IsoBuster.
Here's what it looks like:
The files I'm not used to seeing are POLKY and PATCH and maybe some others.
Whenever I burn it, it seems to boot up. The first thing you see is the "Square-enix" logo. After it comes up then fades out it just stops, and stays on a black screen.
I'm using Verbatim dvd-r's and everything the tutorial tells me to do...
Does anybody have any advice?

Oh great! :) Thanks so much for responding you guys!
Boobooman, I'm pretty sure it comes from "Solops2".
I'm not at home right now, so I don't have the name of the exact site.
-But the place I got it from has a guy that always posts links to torrents from
"solops2". I'm pretty sure all of my backup iso's are from that site.
Tokijin, I'm not at home right now but here's a pick of the exact
same package I bought from OfficeMax.
Their website gives this information about the product:
Verbatim DVD-R 16x Spindle 25pk.
Item # 21016909 , Style # 95058

I've read that the 16x Verb's don't agree with the PS2. People had had very mixed results with 16x media with the PS2, so I recommend that people stick to quality 4x or 8x media. Don't panic, not everybody has issues with the 16x Verb's on their PS2, just don't be surprised if they don't work. If that's the case, exchange them for 4x or 8x Verb's. I've recently backed up some games for a friend of mine onto some Verb 8x DVD-R's, and their quality is terrific, right there with my beloved TY's.

Awesome Tokijin! Thanks so much for the advice!
I'll definitely try out some 4x &/or 8x verbs (because nobody seems
to carry heavenly TY's around here) and then post my results.
It does make sense too, because every straight burn that I've made
produces backups with cutscenes/videos that stutter or just plain
don't work. So I have to rebuild every iso...and then it doesn't
even fully take care of the problem. (the sides of the screen would
ALWAYS still flash green, then blue, when using SwapMagic disks)
With those ones, it all just depends on luck really. Like every
reboot is pulling the lever on a slot machine. And the rebuilt
backups will either work great indefinitely or have cutscenes that
skip indefinitely.

Sony 8x Dvd-r's prudence the same results as the 16x Verbatims.
-Still turns green, then blue....then boots the game, then the Square-enix
logo comes up...then nothing.

Well they're not top notch media unless they are made in Japan and carry the TYG02 media code. The MIT Sony's are decent, but I wouldn't trust them with PS2 games. I said to get some top notch media. Get some Verb's or TY's.
86. Q. Where can I find good deals on legit Taiyo Yuden's and Verbatim's?
A. http://www.supermediastore.com Great List of Merchants locally, online, in the U.K., etc:
http://www.digitalfaq.com/dvdguides/buyerguides/buymedia.htm
106. Q. Where I can find top notch Taiyo Yuden or Verbatim media locally?
A. This is somewhat of a crap shoot. Big manufacturer's like Fuji, Sony, and Maxell have at one point past or present payed Taiyo Yuden to manufacture media for them. The big companies slap their name on the label even though the discs were manufactured in Japan by Taiyo Yuden. These discs will always be made in Japan. Authentic TY media isn't made anywhere else. Even if it says Made in Japan on the label, there is no gauruntee of getting authentic Taiyo Yuden media. You could still end up with Sony or Fuji media codes. Hence why I said this is a crap shoot. Places like Comp USA, Office Depot, Sam's Club, and Staples will carry Made In Japan branded discs. Again there is no way to know for sure from the package whether these are authentic Taiyo Yuden's. If you don't want to risk getting non TY discs, you can find 50 packs of Verbatim in the afore mentioned chain stores. One other alternative is the Made in Japan High Grade Maxell DVD+R's. They will say Made in Japan on the label and "High Grade" as well. These are excellent media. Remember when using DVD+R's, it's best you have a burner that supports booktyping/bitsetting, and a v.4 PS2 or later. Much thanks goes to kivory666 aka "docTY" for this information. He is indeed the Taiyo Yuden master. The best place to get authentic Taiyo Yuden media is from reputable online vendors like http://www.supermediastore.com http://www.rima.com http://www.meritline.com or http://www.newegg.com

Hmmm. this will be interesting. I heard some people had problems with playing the game like, "Its not working!" or "It freezes just after you get to play as the cat." hmm. so u didnt have those problems? do u remember the exact name of the file? sry if im asking to much of you.
Also i should have this game by tomorrow morning so i will know if mine is stupid as well, because i got the same one as Burayen.
O and Burayen are you in like the UK or something? why would you have to patch the game? its not like huge. And its ntsc. so if you live in the UK i can understand.
EDIT: Burayen, Just burn it to dvd and see if it works.
Lamia.

A lot of time on torrent comments, I notice people saying games don't work. If it's two or three, it's probably a media or noob issue. If there's more than that, there's a good chance a game just doesn't work. What I do is simply contact a few people that're knowledgeable and see if they've had issues with it. If two people who know what they're doing have issues with it, it's something with the iso.

Yea i know what u mean. i do the same thing. I always check the comments before i download because it could be a fake or a virus or lord knows what. so yea. I checked the FFVII DOC game im downloading and people said that they got it to work. so i think its only a noob thing or media.

Ahhh, crap.
Maybe I should just download it again?
I've tried to straight burn it to a dvd. But I get that same
square-enix logo, then it freezes. Do you think it might be because I'm using
Swap Magic Swap Magic 2.0?
Thanks for the info betterlam

Hmmm, that's odd. Ok 1: What client did you use to download the torrent?
2: Was there any hash fails or warnings about a file not working corectly? (because with one of my other ones i had a hash fail and the file wasnt working corectly and that would have messed up me using the game) If you do have the original torrent, then put the iso or RAR back in the original download place. and start up the torrent program. have the torrent program check the file and make sure its all there. if it is then there is a problem with that copy of the iso.

Whelp, darn, I waited 3 days for PS2Rip's version to download
from Emule...and I get the same result. -After combining all the .rar
files, I straight up burned the .iso to a Sony 1x-8x Dvd-r. (I used
DVD Decrypter) and I wound up with the exact same result. Blackness
after the Sqaure-Enix logo.
Lamia, I used just normal Bittorrent 4.4.1 to download the torrent.
I never got any failures/warning notices during or after the
download. I'm pretty certain the file is complete.
Tokijin, I'm not sure how to use that .iso
I tried burning it to a dvd, & booting it with my Swap Magic but, I
get pink bars. I didn't really want to take the time to rebuild it.
Are you sure it'll help? What does it do? I can't find any directions
or much of a discription.

Try Zone Loader or DVD Loader. Insert Swap Magic, then Swap it with DVD/Zone Loader, then Swap in your backup.

Awesome! It works like a charm! All because of the Zone Loader disk!
Soooo, all of this means my out-dated Swap Magic is
the source of the whole problem? -Not my burner?
Boobooman, Lamia, Tokijin!
You are truly my saviors! This was a good learning experience!
Thanx!

I'm too weary to read through the whole thread, but if you're using SM 2.0, then yes.

One more quick question:
There isn't a way to burn a self-booting copy of that
Zone Loader disk, is there?
