RitekG05 is no longer adequate for backing up PS2 games in my opinion. Get some high quality Taiyo Yuden or Verbatim media.

86. Q. Where can I find good deals on legit Taiyo Yuden's and Verbatim's?
A. http://www.supermediastore.com
Great List of Merchants locally, online, in the U.K., etc:

Personal experience and from people I've talked to at AD. I had to rebuild a couple EA Sports games when I first got my PS2 chipped. At the time I was using RitekG05. My Ritek's consistently would do worse in CD/DVD Speed scans and have more playback issues. Aside from the rebuilding, the backups I have burned to Ritek work okay. I haven't had any coasters since switching to Taiyo Yuden, so I have no reason to switch. They play excellent in my PS2, and they use top quality azo dye which will preserve the life of my laser. A ton of people I've talked to on AD have had issues with Ritek. There are others who have not. It's decent, but I am very picky when it comes to media. I've had people who burned 150 games to Ritek G05 and then had an elusive game they couldn't get working. When they burned it to Taiyo Yuden, voila. That did the trick. Once you move up to TY, you won't be going back to Ritek.

106. Q. Where I can find top notch Taiyo Yuden or Verbatim media locally?
A. This is somewhat of a crap shoot. Big manufacturer's like Fuji, Sony, and Maxell have at one point past or present payed Taiyo Yuden to manufacture media for them. The big companies slap their name on the label even though the discs were manufactured in Japan by Taiyo Yuden. These discs will always be made in Japan. Authentic TY media isn't made anywhere else. Even if it says Made in Japan on the label, there is no gauruntee of getting authentic Taiyo Yuden media. You could still end up with Sony or Fuji media codes. Hence why I said this is a crap shoot. Places like Comp USA, Office Depot, Sam's Club, and Staples will carry Made In Japan branded discs. Again there is no way to know for sure from the package whether these are authentic Taiyo Yuden's. If you don't want to risk getting non TY discs, you can find 50 packs of Verbatim in the afore mentioned chain stores. One other alternative is the Made in Japan High Grade Maxell DVD+R's. They will say Made in Japan on the label and "High Grade" as well. These are excellent media. Remember when using DVD+R's, it's best you have a burner that supports booktyping/bitsetting, and a v.4 PS2 or later. Much thanks goes to kivory666 aka "docTY" for this information. He is indeed the Taiyo Yuden master. The best place to get authentic Taiyo Yuden media is from reputable online vendors like http://www.supermediastore.com http://www.rima.com http://www.meritline.com or http://www.newegg.com

Yes. It's a good deal. The Taiyo Yuden 8x silver thermal DVD-R's are on sale for $35 with free ground shipping.

Check it out: http://www.supermediastore.com/taiyo-yuden-silver-thermal-8x-dvd-...

That's a steal. You're getting TY's for .35 cents a disc!!! You can go with that or the 4x: http://www.supermediastore.com/taiyo-yuden-4x-dvd-r-media-silver-...

That's going to be around $33 with shipping. So for $2 more, you can get 8x media and burn at 4x til your hearts content. I'd go with the 100 spindles of the TYG02, that's what I started off on with Taiyo Yuden, 150+ burns with 0 coasters. Of late, I started using Taiyo Yuden DVD+R's booktyped to DVD-ROM.

Most likely it's the Ritek's. The signs are they've been going south for awhile. When you can get TY's and Verbs for cheaper, I see no reason to use Ritek.

Try a straight burn to quality Taiyo Yuden or Verbatim media. If that doesn't work, then worry about rebuilding.
