ive got a film on dvd which has been causing me endless problems. i have been unable to rip it for about a week. but today i managed to extract the vobs, and create the ifo, bup files with ifoedit. the files have burned fine. no prob there. but when i watch the film on my standalone player the subtitles are a horrible green colour and cant make out what they say. yet they are normal when viewing the vobs on my pc through any media player. what could have caused this and is their any way of curing the problem?
ong bak, its a backup of my original, but i want another one as this one has been playing up. the vobs have ripped fine and i have been looking at this thread
As best as I can understand it the subtitle colors are partly determined by the VTS_01_0.IFO file but also the VOB file itself. If I've created my own set of IFO and BUP files from the VOB's then between IFOEdit and PgcEdit I can usually get the subs to display how I want them to.
If I have green or ugly looking subs the first thing I do is open the IFO file with IFOEdit. Select VTS_PGCITI, select VTS_PGC_1, in the bottom window scroll down until you see the color entries. Edit the first four color entries ("Color 0 Y Cr CB", "Color 1 Y Cr CB", "Color 2 Y Cr CB", "Color 3 Y Cr CB"). For the 0 entry use the value "00 80 80", for the 1 entry use "55 80 80", for 2 use "AA 80 80" and for 3 use "FF 80 80". Your first four color values should look like this:
That will work for me most of the time to fix green ugly subs, but not always. If it doesn't work then I use PgcEdit. File, Open DVD, then browse to the Video_TS folder of your DVD files, click OK. (with the small window that opens wait until the "Pause", "Abort" options disappear and "Close" becomes an option, could be 15 seconds or so.) Click Close.
In the left side window scroll down and highlight Title 1, the main movie, the entry with the longest playing time. Right-click then Edit PGC. In the lower left corner of the window that opens you'll see the colors for the Color Lookup Table.
Edit the colors as needed. If you have green subs, look for the green entry and change it to white. Click OK, then File, Save DVD. Sometimes it's a bit of trial and error because you've got the background color to deal with as well. But with IFOEdit and PcgEdit together you should be able to clean them up.
