Hi everyone, need help with a little problem. Basically this is to do with full DVD-9 backups, that is, normal dvds to double-layered blanks.

1. I use Verbatim Dual-Layered Blank DVDs - best quality out there.
2. DVD Burner is Sony DW-D56A.
3. DVDs are backed up using DVD Decrypter to an iso, and burnt using ImgBurn.
4. DVD player is Samsung DVD-HD850.

So as expected, the backups play great from this quality media but there are a few problems :

- When pressing 'disc menu' on the remote control in the middle of the film, the menu will load, but there will be no selector to be seen (i.e. a highlighting colour to select the options with). That means that the only option is to press play again and continue from the same point you stopped.

- Rewinding does not work. Any speed from 2x to 64x. Fast forwarding does, and so does the chapter skip.

So im wondering about these errors as DiskInfo says there are no CRC Read errors on the disks.

Basically the question is if its the dvd player itself ? Because in that case, dvd players more compatible with dual layer media that will come out as the HD era arrives will fix the problems.

Or is it the discs ?

Anyone help at all would be great !

Thanks

I don't know too much about your Samsung model, I had bought one that was a little lower in price from WalMart about 8 months ago and ended up taking it back because it really hated dual layer disks. I could not get them to play, all the disks would do was pause, skip and freeze. I could play them on my other players fine but not the Samsung. Replaced it with a Sony and the disks work fine. Some players just do not like them. Have you tried the disk on another player to see how it works?

Well it seems to be a problem with most of my dual layer discs. Normal discs work fine.

@Hawksight
Have you tried burning the .mds file? This is the 1 I pick on the rare occasion I do dual layer. I burn w/ decrypter also. Since imgburn is by the same guy I would think you could pick this file decrypter created. Or try decrypter to burn. As arniebear suggested I would also try these on another player and see what happens.

Something else to try is changing the batteries in the remote.

Just a suggestion!
