I need help with a HP Pavillion 743c. Sorry i wasnt sure this was a software of hardware issue. It keeps restarting no matter what i do. I dont even have time to go to the bios or to go into HP's system recovery mode. I don't know what it is, we have not messed with the computer's hardware at all, everything is just as it came from the store. I wasnt the one using the computer, its my dad's and he keeps it in his office so i dont have an idea what it could be. We actually have 2 of the same models of this computer and we have never had any problems with the other one. It was hooked up only on dial-up with aol, but no anti spyware or anti virus. We BAREly, almost NEVER use it on the internet since we have another computer on DSL. But because it was in an office, i dont think it would be a virus anyway. Is there some way i could retrieve the info on it or get it to somehow work. I dont really care if i have to reset the entire computer, but i just want to be able to take data off the hard drive and to be able to get to where i can use HP's system recovery to reinstall windows xp.

Here are the system's stats:
Windows XP (no service pack2)
2.4GHZ pentium 4
512MB ram
80GB hard drive
HP Pavillion 743c

Let me know if u need any other info to help me

Remember: I only want a way to get the info on the hard drive and reset into windows xp. Or u can just tell me all together how to get back into windows. Whatever helps. Help Please!!!

You could take your HDD out and put it in your dads PC and take the data out.......But if you can't even boot it without it rebooting than something might be wrong with the bios

Yeah, thats what i figured i would end up trying to do. I've never taken out a hard drive before. If i put the hard drive on my working computer, coulf it screw anything up here? But do yout hink there would be anyway for me to keep using the computer?

Have you tried checking the fan? Maybe the fan has collected dust from the office and is overheating the computer, some restarts are due to the computer overheating or it could be that the powerport at the office isn't giving enough power to operate the computer.

MttFrog13, if can get into the bios see what the cpu temp is at. disconnect all cables to drives. remove all cards & ram except for videocard & 1 stick of ram. reseat those 2. reseat motherboard power connector(s). look at the can shaped objects which are capacitors to see if domed or not as they are not supposed to be domed. doing this to isolate problem as is not software if not enough time to get into bios.

The problem is as ddp said, hardware if it's restarting that early. You can try all possible combinations of RAM (although obv if you only have one stick then dont bother, just reseat it (take it out and put it back)), and check the cpu fan still spins ok. If still no luck, then you may have to change bios and or CPU and or entire assembly.

UPDATE!!!

Well, i have a update. I finally actually got my hands on the pc and it turns out they were wrong. Its 256MB RAM with windows pro. You can get to the bios. At start up, the CPU is at 92*f(37*C),and in the time that i finished the very post, it leveled off at 102*F(39*C). That seems kind of high, but i wouldnt know. It will load up as far as the Windows screen were the bars slide across at the bottom and then it restarts. I already tried reseating the ram or even putting it in a different slot but i just dont know what to do. Help me please.

I'd love it if my CPU ran as cool as 39ºC!
