I have a microphone and when i plug it in i can hear myself from the speakers and when i mute the microphone i can still hear myself. i think its because of how my speakers are setup i have 5.1 speakers and i use realtek sound manager. i can hear myself from the speakers but i cant record myself or use mic for online gaming. people tell me to go to sound control and click on options then properties then make sure recording is chosen but in my mixer device i there is three choices to choose from and i click on the second one so i am able to choose recording. but even when i click on recording i can still hear myself from the speakers even when the mic is muted !!! PLEASE HELP

first of all, on "playback", mute the level that is labelled "microphone", that will mute your voice coming out the speakers. You want microphone selected as the recording option, and not muted. Once you've muted playback try recording.

Generally you can't expect great sound out of onboard anyway. Go for something like a Sound Blaster Audigy OEM card, they're about $30 i think, so more than reasonable.

Sure. That should almost certainly solve the problem.
