I have been wondering, since I have a bad fear of a fire destroying all my games (I have all sorts ranging from PC, GBA, PS, PS2, Gamecube). Is it legal to burn to back up for anytype of emergency and keep them at someone else's (like a parents or in-laws) house? Is it a really time consuming or expensive way to handle this? Would it be worth to backup or is there something to keep them safe from a fire?

ok is it illegal -
this is a very grey & confusing area also depends what country you live in

(U.S law as i understand it)-
copying dvd's & games is illegal1! backing up original dvd's & games that you own is not (you are allowed one back up disc of the originals that you own)

the process can be quite time consuming - depending on what pc & software you have.

is it worth it - in my opinion yes the time is well worth it in case any of the discs get scratched or anything (burned) you can get blank cds/dvds fairly cheap nowadays so shouldnt be to expensive. one golden rule is to buy quality brand media like taiyo yuden, verbatim, sony (made in japan) discs. when you back up ps2 games burn at the slowest speed possible & when backing up dvd's burn at 1/2 the drive/media speed i.e 16X drive 16X discs burn at 8X this should give you good results.

one thing you will need for your ps2 is a modification of some sort (chip/disc) also for the gamecube, as they will not read back up discs without some sort of modification. as for gba i have no experience with it.

as for keeping them safe from fire - a good smoke alarm & fireproof safe lol.
