I have a slim ps2 Model # SCPH-70012 and I want to get Swap Magic and the correct tool for using it. Where to get them online for a cheap price. What kinda disc to use to backup (CD/DVD)(+/-). What brand of disc to use. Also, is this safe or does it destroy the ps2 overtime?

Thanks.

Get a modchip. It will cost more but will save you A LOT of hassles with waiting for patch releases, rebuilding the games etc.

swap magic will not dstroy your ps2, cheap media will, use quality brand discs like taiyo yuden, verbatim, sony (made in japan) you can get the full list here -

in my experience (& many others that i have read) DVD-R works better for ps2, if you get DVD+R you are better off booktyping the discs, for better results

well those type of questions will have a million different answers because it is mostly personal preference.

But here is my 2 cents:
1. if you want the best, no hassle way to play your back ups then get a mod chip & laser fix installed. It will cost more at start up but in the long run will even out or save you compared to the cheaper version of using swap magic. Just search the forums as i know i have posted the reasons for this many, many, many times.

2. Swap Magic and one other mod is what you need if that is the way you wish to go. That one other mod can be a Slimtool, Magic Switch, Ghost Switch, or aftermarket flip top as they all do the same thing.

3. Best media you can choose is a toss up really, i see mostly
Taiyo Yuden, Ritek, Verbatim, Maxcell (made in japan only)
I use Philips 8X DVD-R myself and they have never failed me.
I suggest a good 8X DVD-R do do games with, burn them at 4X speed.
I say -R because they are the most compatible format and for me have worked much better than +R
