Hey everyone.

I was trying to load a video file into virtual dub and save the audio as a separate file (so I would end up with the video, and the uncompressed audio file). When I tried doing that I got this msg: No audio decompressor could be found to decompress the source audio format. (source format tag: 2000)

As a result it wont let me save the audio file to a separate wav file. I have FFDshow installed but I don't really know how to use it in great detail. All this codec stuff is like Chinese to me. Anyone see this msg before and how to fix the problem?

Have not seen the message myself. I think you've figured it out though, it can't find the right codec to play the audio. Tag 2000 is Dolby Digital (AC3) I believe.
BTW, what a codec is is a way to encode the audio and or video into a stream of bytes that a PC can understand. Files like AVI contain a list of what's in there, how things fit together, and what codecs were used. The PC looks at this when it tries to play a file, but when it can't find a codec it needs, you get an error.

Hi guys,
A codec compresses and decompresses, both.
Use VirtualDubMod, and you must have an AC3 decoder installed in Windows. Any software DVD player, or Nero, or AC3Filter

will provide that.
Do you want an uncompressed WAV file, or would you be happy to simply de-mux (or separate) the audio into AC3 or MP3 or whatever format it's in originally? What will you do with the audio?

VirtualDub uses ACM for audio. What you need is:
