Wireless LAN issue (Offline gaming)

I have a wireless home network and could not connect to any LAN games (thats offline), it would only add me as an observer to a game and no one could connect to the games I created.

However as soon as I hard wired my computer to the network all these problems disappeared. Hooray you might think but there are other people on the wireless network that can not be hard wired and so cannot play.

Does anyone know what is wrong with the wireless network or how to get around this. (Apart from wiring the whole house).

The games I have tried are Empire at War and Battle for Middle Earth 2.
