Anyone using avi.NET figure out how to keep all 5 channels on the audio?

I've been using avi.NET to convert DVD's to XVID. For the most part it has been working great but one thing I've noticed is that even when an audio track says something like "T01 3_2 448Kbps [AC3]" and I select the make external, it doesn't always have 5 channels after converted.

I'll check the original VOB with gspot and it'll come up as having 5 channel audio but when I check the converted AVI it's only got 2 channels.

The really weird thing is it doesn't always do this. Sometimes the converted AVI will have 5 channels instead of 2. I can't figure out what I'm doing different on any of them. I always select the tracks that says something like 3_2 448Kbps AC3 and I check the make external box but I just never know if it's going to be 2 channels or 5 until it's done converting.

Hi,

I have been using this little treasure for awhile and once or twice gotten all 5 channels by using the original audio with no changes. Are you using the latest version which is 2.0.5 or somewhere near that. Checking their site as I read there is no specific way to add all the channels so it may be released in the next version. Until then I suggest toying with the program as I said earlier there is no determined way as of yet to select all 5 audio channels. Good luck.

Yeah, I'm using the latest version 2.0.5.0 (16th Jan 06).

It's just really weird how sometimes they'll have 5 channels after being converted and other times they won't. I just got done doing 3 DVD's that all had 5 channels originally and I put the settings on all 3 of them exactly the same in AVI.NET but still only 2 of 3 still had 5 channels after converting.

Yes it is weird as to how the audio channels are used with the converted file. I would keep an eye on this program as this is an issue I emailed to the author of the software and there will be a revision possibly to support which audio channels are selectable (i.e. all or individually). Also may have to do with the dvd as well not the software. I will post back once I have received a reply in regards to this issue.

Hi,

As a followup I did receive a reply back and to keep it simple if adding all audio channels goes over your size preference then the 2 main audio channels (3 sometimes dependent on size) will be available. THere is a work in progress on somehow to address that issue but nothing in stone for the forseeable future.
