Go here and plug your burner name in and see the specs.

Some burner do not support DVD -R Dual Layer although they do support the +R Dual Layer. Whether the drive writes to -R/+R single layer media has no bearing on this

Hi there,

DVD-R and DVD-R Dual Layer are 2 different things.

Most drive didn't support DVD-R Dual Layer until now.

Download a tool like VSO Inspector, or DvdInfoPro and see if it does support DVD-R DL at all.

Then provide us your Burner Model and firmware version.

A few drives now support DVD-R DL with a firmware upgrade.

According to the specs your drive handles this media, also your fw is up to date. Could just be the brand of disk you are using, also +R DL are a better media and easier for the burners to write to, -R media has its information written at the beginning and therefore cannot be changed by a program, therefore the layer break must be exact, whereas +R since written at the end can compensate for a change in the layer break.
