help with metal gear solid 3 snake eater wont start

I have tried two different copy's of MGS 3 Snake eater & cannot get past the start menu. I press start button & it keeps reverting back to new game menu, have tried all 5 menu's , but all 5 take me to the press start button I have orig DVD + have it on HD Advance 3 Pal version

first after you press start then you press O not X.O is the main button in metal gear games

It's good to know I'm not the only one ,but my kid,s 10 & 13 did not know either so I didn't feel to bad LOL
