ok so i'll try to make this as clear as possible even tho i'm confused like i've never been before :(

it all started when i got my copy of Metal Gear Solid 3:Subsistence
being the Metal Gear fan that i am, i eagerly put disc 2 in the ps2 to try the online mode right away, but i was unable to connect.
( i should note here that the day after i got the game, i tried playing my friend's copy of socom 2 online at my home and it worked without a hitch)
i contacted my ISP's tech support, Konami's customer support and even a few other forums, and so far people have been confusing the hell out of me by totally contradicting each other.
so first let's get my configuration out of the way:
i'm with Bell Sympatico, my internet connection is High Speed
my modem is a speedstream 5360 and i don't have a router
i am also using windows XP

so..after contacting Konami, i was told that the following ports needed to be open for the game to connect:

UDP 5730-5739
TCP: 80, 443, 5730-5733

so i contacted my ISP and told them i needed them to check if thoses ports were open, and the guy was clueless, he said that my ports can't be closed since i have no router and that my modem doesn't close ports

not understanding anything, i recontacted Konami and gave them my modem's specifics, and in return they replied saying that my modem had an in-built firewall that was probably blocking the connection.
on another forum, I've been told this is not true so i used the online scanner Shields Up to scan thoses ports( i had no idea i could check that myself when i first called my ISP) and they all came as being stealth, i retried after turning off windows XP firewall, and then it said the ports were closed

i'm a complete noob when it comes to that kinda things so there's a few things i need to ask:
first, the ports, are they related to my pc or my ps2? some guy on another forum told me to scan the ps2 using Shields UP but i can't see how that would be possible, when my ps2 is connected to the modem, my pc is not..hence no internet
secondly, if i have no router, how could thoses ports be closed in the first place? and how can i reopen them? my modem is supposed to leave everything open, but again that's obviously wrong, otherwise i wouldn't have any problems
please help me, i'm getting really irritated over this.. I've had the game for nearly a week now and i still can't play the online mode, which is the main reason for me getting that damn game
feel free to ask anything you need to know
any help will be appreciated, thanks

Do you have anything like Peerguardian running? A software-based firewall apart from the standard XP one?

And yes, game's ports differ between region and title itself.

As for your modem, you should have a look at - http://www.portforward.com

what is the DNAS error you're getting and do you have a mod chip in the ps2?

NTSC DNAS threads.

i don't have a modchip and it's not a DNAS error, it says ''Connection Network Aborted ( 428 )
it's simply a timeout issue, i've got to find what is blocking the connection
also, i created a network configuration using the in game application, and the test said the connection was working fine, but it won't let me connect
and no i am not running anything besides the xp firewall, but i don't think it's related, i don't use a router, when my ps2 is online, my pc is not, and when my pc is, my ps2 is not

Your PC has to be on at the same time as the PS2! How else will it connect to the internet!?

hmm...by connecting the ps2 to the modem( external modem)? i'm not making this up, it's supposed to work ( and it DID work with socom 2) but with MGS3:S i'm having problems
what you're talking about would require a router, and i don't have one
