ok ive been searching these forums all morning and im still confused, i have a few divx files that i want to burn as data for my standalone player but they were encoded using S(GMC)-VOP and QuarterPixel. what is the easiest way for me to convert these to xvid or divx keeping near the original filesize? what software would be the simplest? thanx in advance.
speak of the devil i had just come across a thread about that....gonna try it out this morning....and my player is the philips dvp642, definitely dosent support it. thanx for the advice.
because the player doesnt support GMC or Q-Pel type,encoding,i dont think there is a way around it,other than using a app that doesnt use GMC or Q-Pel
edit,i have just seen a similar thread,and using VirtualDubMod instead was suggested,of course without using Q-Pel or GMC

So if I understand this properly, if I have AVI files that use GMC, and I run it through AVI ReComp, it will redo the file without GMC?
I'm wondering because I have a few files that (video) appears to go weird when playing in my player. I was told to use this (AviRecomp) and it would fix it up for me.
Also, is there any way to look at a file to see if it uses GMC or S-VOP as you say? It would be nice to see if I need to recode the file as most of the ones I have do not. Thus I would save the burning of a file only to see it needs to be recoded.

I read in another post that it was because of S-VOP (GMC) or QPEL.
Everything here looks fine. However, when I play this file about an hour in it starts getting all blotchy in the video. The standalone never freezes, but it starts happening more and more as time goes on in the movie (i.e. once it starts it happens a lot). I have a few files that this happens on, but not many. I use Maxell DVD+R and probably 90% of my movies work fine. I've even tried these on a few different players and the problems remain on the same files.
The only thing I have done is use the Divx Four CC Changer utility (as mentioned in some posts here) to change the header on some files to DIVX from xVid.
