Found a copy of this and want to back it up so nothing happens. Disc is fine, drive is a week old and brand new and read the disc fine in DVD Decrypter, except when it gets to 99% it starts to display, Failed to read Sector 1542034 - Unrecovered Read Error, and keeps displaying them every other minute or so.

Any advice or is this normal and should I just have it ignore these?

Download Nero Info Tool and check the ASPI tab to see if everything is installed and working okay. Check both System ASPI and Nero ASPI. Get Nero Info Tool Here: http://www.cdspeed2000.com/

OK ran that and it told me no ASPI was installed at all.

Do I have to just reinstall Nero or download something else?

Open DVD Decrypter. Go to Tools-->Settings-->I/O and select STPI Microsoft under Interface. Click okay, then try ripping it again.

hello

you do not need to re-install nero

you need to install a working aspi layer, but thats not the cause why you are failing at 99%
you can download aspi layer from here

http://www.doom9.org/index.html?/aspi.htm

just click on the download tab, which says force aspi, marked in red on the right hand side of the page

make sure the disk is clean, and not scratched,,then try again

if this fails, try another app to transfer the image onto the HD,if this fails, try this

open isobuster, and open the image, and use that to extract the iso

hopes this helps

It very well could be the cause of the game failing at 99%. Agm, have you been able to successfully rip any other games of late? I do agree you need to install an ASPI layer though.

Trying on another comp now. Was able to rip Smackdown Vs Raw successfully to the harddrive, took the suggestion above and did the Force ASPI although didn't try switching to another I/O standard. Katamari still gave the same issues in the same place. Smackdown ripped fine.

So trying on another burner and if that doesn't work I will try chaning the I/O and seeing if that makes a difference.

I dont know if this helps but everybody who installs that game on there harddrive always starts getting a bunch of errors at 99 percent

So maybe the developers purposely made the discs like that

Yeah well I still got the error on the other PC too but if your right mike that tells me I'm not alone then but the question is how do you back it up then?

I would assume there still is a way. If not I'm just gonna have to be super careful with the disc I guess then.

Any other ideas?

I backed up an original copy fine, no read errors or anything. I think it's a setting/driver issue. Sometimes even a game that looks flawless can have massive read errors. One thing I've learned from ripping horribly scratched games is that you can't always tell by the visual appearance of the data surface if a game will rip or not. Games that look unblemished can have massive read errors, and games that look like they were used as a canine frisbee can rip fine. Try ripping it with Alcohol 120%.

Alcohol 120%: http://www.free-downloads.net/programs/Alcohol_120_

88. Q. How do I burn PS2 DVD games with Alcohol 120%?
A. Ripping the game to your Hard Drive:
1. Insert your disc.
2. Open Alcohol 120%.
3. Click Image Making Wizard.
4. Check Ignore read errors, select your recorder, leave the never separate box alone.
5. Click Next. Select a destination for the game. Click Start.
Once the process is complete, you'll get an mds and an mdf file. Click finish, if necessary.

Burning the game to DVD:
1. Insert your blank disc.
2. Right click the mdf file.
3. Select Image Burning Wizard.
4. Select your recorder, set the write speed to 4x.
5. Click next.

IsoBuster has failed me several times in this situation. Alcohol 120% has been the most reliable app for me when it comes to ripping damaged discs. Your idea may work, but you seem to be implying mine won't. He's free to do as he chooses. I won't get in a competition with you. I've helped enough people, one more isn't going to make any difference.

hello

you need to get down from your high horse, just because you have the "addict status" doesnt mean you are always right, and what you say is gospel,i was merely pointing out a suggestion, and you shouldnt jump to conclusions that i was implying Alcohol 120 wont work.
how does that imply what you said doesnt work?
alcohol 120 is not a recovery tool,it will merely ignor the errors, thus leaving you with an image that may possibly fail whilst playing
if you read what i said, and i quote "do what i sugggested, and extract the image with isobuster (its a recovery tool)
if that doesnt work, then nothing will",that statement is perfectly correct.
isobuster is the best recovery tool you can get,and if it hasnt worked for you, then you obviously havent set it up right.
there are a few settings you must make for you to get a error free image

i have only been a member of this site for a short time, and if this sort of provaction is anything to go by,i wont be here for much longer
never i have i seen so many people looking to knock people down.
its like a zoo

Sorry. Maybe I was a little defensive. I admit I've been on edge here on AD recently. There has been a lot of conflict here of late. Yes IsoBuster may work for this, it never has for me. Maybe the Pro version works better, I always use the freeware version. Believe me, I'm not on a high horse. I do know a lot about the PS2, but I'll be the first to admit I'm unsure or don't know something. The addict status by name does mean something, it means I cared enough to put in 100's of hours of time trying to help people. It certainly doesn't mean I'm infallable. I've been wrong a ton of times. If I wasn't wrong I'd be inhuman. I'm very human. I've got a ton more thank you's than conflicts. I don't know everything buy a long shot, but I do my best.

hello,
yes i see you put in a lot of time here, but sometimes people need to take a step back and not be so defensive.
browsing through these forums it seems to be a common occurance, this is not directed at you personally,is just my overall perception
forums are about opinions and not always about facts, and can vary from person to person
this is how arguements can start and get out of hand.

lets just say we will agree to disagree on this one.
and not for you to think this has got personal, keep up the good work, your Q @ A's stickie is quite something :),and very useful

i am just starting to find my way around this site..

Hmmm bleh. Same read errors even in alcohol towards the end.

Not sure what the deal is. Will have to try a few other things. Tried changing the ASPI settings but errors still occur. I may just have to accept that the copy I have just doesn't work right when it comes to ripping it.

It definitely plays fine but otherwise I can't figure out whats causing that error right at the end.

I've burned and ripped a few other games since trying this....so coming up clueless now.
