I have couple of mp3 audios that I want to tranform into better quality audios. So I chose to convert those mp3s (using dBpower AMP) into mp3(Lame), but are the following going to improve the audio quality:
-Channels = Stereo is the default (are "Joint Stereo" or "Dual Channel" better?)
-The frequency defaults to 44100 HZ: if I higher it up to 48000, will that be better?
-The encoding is at "Constant Bitrate": if I choose "variable Bitrate" and put it's quality to "high"..is that a good idea?
-As for the presets: instead of "No preset", If I choose "Studio quality" or "High", will that be a better idea?

You will not be able to increase the quality of any mp3 file by reencoding it. A file is compressed by taking out information that isn't necessary to make it smaller. The only way to improve quality is to put back some information that was taken out. So, in other words, it's impossible.

to expand on what digidave said, anytime you convert or re-encode a lossy format, such as mp3, to another lossy format, you will lose significant quality. in other words, if you have a mp3 at 128kpbs, converting it to a 256kpbs mp3 will not increase the quality, in fact it will LOSE quality.

as the saying goes, you can't make chicken soup from chicken sh*t. so basically you cannot increase the quality of your files.

For the best quality mp3s use EAC (exact audio copy) to rip your audio CDs and LAME to encode them. Follow this guide:
