mp3 pro problems.

hello all,
when i convert an mp3 to mp3 pro i get a strange sqeeking noise in the background. it sounds like the wheels of an old casset tape. i use mmjb, both 7.5 and 8.0 same results for both. the files are not the problem. i tried ripping a store bought cd and got the same squeeking noise. the tech support at mmjb was no help, they have not heard of any body else having this problem. i have converted hundreds of songs from mp3 to pro and this is the first time this has happened. encoding songs to regular mp3 at a higher br is fine no sound anomalies at all, but then you get a much bigger file. any help will be appreciated. thanks in advance for the time and assistance.

I have no answer to your problem.

However, it is not recommendable to convert MP3->MP3Pro, since repeated lossy conversion cycles decrease the sound quality quite a bit.

MP3Pro is quite crappy anyway, so unless you need id for a portable player, I would recommend other formats for low bitrate compression (Vorbis or AAC).

thank you for the advice. i never thought of that. i only used mp3 pro so that my collection would not eat up all my hard drive space. would the same apply for converting an mp3 to a hgher bit rate? i know that is probably a dumb question but i am still learning about this stuff. or should i just leave them as they are? are there any programs out there to clean the sound up? ones that a newbie would be able to figure out. thank you for your time and the assistance.

MP3 and MP3Pro (and AAC, RealAudio, OGG Vorbis, Musepack, etc.) are LOSSY compession methods. This means that every time a song is compressed, information is lost and quality degrades. No matter what bitrate. And there is no way to bring back the original quality.
