EMERSON DVD RECORDER

My recorder works fine - However when I am playing a DVD movie - The picture freezes about 3/4 of the way through - every time !
This continues for a few minutes and then it starts in again - but at a later point in the movie - as if the movie is running in the background.
It will not allow me to rewind back to that point either - It seems as if it is at the end of a scene / chapter that the problem occurs.

I have tried 3 or 4 cleaning products but nothing has helped.

Any suggestions ?
