Xbox copied game start-up disc

Iv been told by someone who claims to have worked for microsoft on the xbox project, that there are paticular discs/programs out that you can start the xbox up with and then swap the disc for a copied game and play it without the need for any chips or mods.

Has anyone else heard about these startup discs and where to get them?
