Hmm, i asked this question a few days ago, and here are your options:
(I'm assuming u do not have a wireless connection)
1) U can buy a cheap cat5 wire(ethernet wire) to connect from your modem to your 360,. It will be a bit of a hassle to connect/disconnect everytime, and plus the wire will look messy like u said, but it only costs £5-10 for like a 20m wire (a couple of pouns for a much shorter one). And everyone always mentions that a wired connection has less problems and is easiest to setup.
2) You can buy a wireless router, (about £30-50 for a 802.11g one which will work well with the 360). Now this sets up a wireless network connection, but your 360 doesn't recieve this connection without a separate device. There are two types of device to allow the 360 to recieve wireless connections:
i) Wireless bridge. This is a wireless adaptor that can be used on most consoles, not just for the 360, and it just connects to the back of your 360 ethernet socket, and it will recieve the wirelees connection. Only problem with this is that it requires a separate plug socket to be powered, (I think it costs about £20, but not sure)
ii) Official 360 Wireless Adaptor. This is what toocool4u mentioned. It recieves the wireless connection and is good as it connects to the 360usb socket, so doesn't need any extra power. But major problem is that it costs £60! (It can be bought from any shop or online!)
So overall u have two choices. Cheap wired connection for £10max. Or exspensive wireless connection which can cost up to £100!
Hope this helped!
