So i've been peruzing the forums and ive been very upset with the number of people asking about what will hl2 run with...so heres a list
It runs with any NVIDIA GeForce card about th 4000 GTX serious, thats what i have, it gets a little choopy when tis autosaving but its bareble, once you go through the entire game a couple of times, then the card will recongnize the game itself and load faster and not be so choppy, in fact i believe if you go through the game 19 times, which ive done (i get entremely bored waiting for better games to come out) and it has no choppyness what so ever...
i would recommend at least 512 RAM or higher, but we recently got a new pc, so we only have 128 sadley, i know cry for me. then you should set detial to low, if you set it too high then it will be chopper then normal, but it looks so much better, the water detials are extremely low on it, in fact there are non...which i will explian why...
The water detial is badley downgraded and can't be set to "Reflect all." but there is a way to override this...but you will have massive draw backs, the game will freeze, and you will experience major bits of choppy'ness and lag ( I MEAN MAJOR LAG!!! )SO DONT LOOK AT THE WATER OFFTEN!!!
heres how you over ride it, enable developer mode, then type in sv_cheats 1 after that type in
bind (whatever key you would like here, i have a 7 button mouse so, i have button 7 set to this command) override_reflect all, remember this doesnt work on the following computer types,
Compaq's, i mean all of them, it will say unknown command.
alienware, just some models, the later ones mostley.
ALL Gateways (who the hell uses a gateway...)
all the really old computers still running on winddows 98/95, the game doesnt work on there anyways, thought it was worth mentioning...
it works on the dells with pentium 4's in it, and some models with p3's in it (must have extremely high RAM almost 9 gigs!!! HOLY CRUNK MONKEYS!!!). 0r 1.5 teras will work fine.
When you enable the water effects, the level "Water Hazard" disable them...this should be an automatic reacion the damn lvl name has "Water" in it.
The best kind of screen, which you don't need ot have just a recomendations, would be a 1280 by 1024 res. plasma, or high def, becuase this game is so dark in some parts, and the flash light can't cover it all...
umm, what else, ow, NO PROGRAMS RUNNING WHAT SO EVER!!!, YOU MUST ONLY HAVE HL2 RUNNING, CLOSE ALL THOSE OTHER USELESS PROGRAMS!!!
Radeon, and card supports hl2 just on diffrent lvl's. like its cheaper to buy the 9800 then the nvidia 4000, but im a big picture freak so i got nvidia.dont worry about it radeon needs no explination.
The generic cards, the social out cast!
NEVER USE ONE OF THESE!!! YOUR COMPUTER WILL PLOP FASTER THEN A BUM JUMPS FOR A DOLLAR (sorry, just thought that was funny.)
AMD Athlon 64 bit WORKS AMAZINGLEY WELL!!
this can support high detial with reflect all water effects, and not miss a frame rate, it never chuggs along.

anything below 128 RAM, will take several minutes to load, so go get a drink or something, i call it "my go get a drink and pee time."
