Playing burned movies on PS2

I am trying to play movies ,that I have backed up on 8X DVD's, on my PS2. Some will read and most others will not. If this is a booktype problem, how do I get around it if my burner can not do that? What kind of media can the PS2 play (DVD+/- RW) and up to what speed of disc?

my PS2 plays so called "backup" movies fine. i use DVD-R. i use memorex with ritek dye. i figured out how to choose ritek memosuzs from cmc-mag memosux. woo. i do know that dvd-rw;s are not good for anyhting. DVD +/- r's are the best

below V4 consoles will not read +R disks at all and some later versions have problems if they are not booktyped. with your burner not supporting booktyping just use a -R. don't use +/- RW disks if you can help it, the laser inst as easily able to read them and it puts undue strain on it and shortens life expectancy.
